Susie Wiles is Out, Stephen Miller is In

When Trump says that Wiles “will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation,” what do we think that means? A shadow whip, so to speak? Or is it just a nice way of saying “tucked in a corner?”

Exactly. Or send out those midnight tweets and memes. Miller will have to pry the two of them apart with a crowbar.

Trump doubling down on the very people who pushed for the policies which cost the Republican party their moral, intellectual, and (for now) political high ground is the gift which keeps on giving.

The Wiles departure has been in the cards for weeks now, so no dramatic story is needed. Pundits have been predicting her departure for a while.

Foxnews.com headline: “Trump’s move from Wiles to Miller signals major tactical shift for governing without Congress”.

How does this differ from a dictatorship?

I’ve been calling Trump a dictator for a long time. He spends money for purposes Congress did not authorize and appropriate, and refuses to spend money they did appropriate.

We should see the standard conflict that historically occurs between a parliament, properly jealous of its privileges, and a king who refuses to act as a constitutional monarch. The only reservation I have, with the FoxNews headline, is whether there really will be a big tactical shift as we move from Wiles to Miller. I think Trump already governs as a normie, non-fascist – dictator.

This in the article seems more correct than the headline:

The relevance to the thread is that Wiles would, maybe, gently, want less of a complete dictatorship, while Miller is, I suspect, full-bore in favor.

No way Natalie leaves. She’s sort of like Donald’s Eva Braun- cheering him up and keeping him isolated from reality.

Could putting Evil Incarnate in the role be another distraction? While we’re gathering garlic and sharpening our stakes, the Feds are in the background turning the fuckery up to 11?

Oof, it feels like the last adult has left the room and there is literally nothing left but the toddler-in-chief’s id. I don’t think she was a good person, but I think she was capable of foreseeing the probable consequences of letting him indulge his worst instincts, and of acting as a check on them at least some of the time.

What I hope is that a few more Cabinet members will depart and a Democratic Senate can force Trump to pick replacements who are Wrong Within Normal Parameters. I suspect progressives will not be thrilled with this course of action, but it’s better than having the entire executive branch staffed with cranks and courtiers.

John Casey of The Advocate and Raw Story is not a fan of CoS Miller. I’ve excerpted his comments down to adjectives to avoid copyright violation.

I really don’t understand how things will get worse just because Miller has a new position. This guy was feeding Trump poison anyway, so what’s changed?

I assume it means the office of Ambassador to the Shield of the Americas has been discontinued.

It’s one of the more powerful appointed positions. The chief of staff has significant daily contact with the president and manages schedule and access. Managing the rest of the White House staff also means the chief can also tell them what priorities to work on “for the president.”

He not only increases his face time greatly in his new role but he also can exercise a fair amount of control over what other opinions Trump gets exposed to.
