A drunk driver caused a bizarre chain-reaction pileup, which wound up killing a woman. Why is this any different than any other drunk-driving fatality? Perhaps it was how a drunk driver was able to slip through the cracks of one of the CHP’s biggest drunk-driving crackdowns and indirectly take a life. Or maybe this issue is more about inexpierienced young drivers. Yeah, the guy was arrested under ‘suspicion’ of drunk driving and not actual DUI…either way he’ll have a lot of explaining to do.
But maybe the real reason this is so disturbing for me is because I was there, scarcely 20 minutes after the accident occurred. I was riding in my friend’s car, on the way back from a late movie. As we drove past, I actually saw the woman’s corpse with a sheet partially covering her  When I told my friends, “I think I saw a dead woman on the road” they didn’t initially believe me, because…well, because something like that is so morbid.
I think it is really tragic. When I initially saw the accident the first thing that came into my mind was, “Only a drunk driver could cause this much sorrow”. When I read the paper and saw the article this morning, my blood ran cold. The woman was only trying to help. It is hard not to feel some sense of injustice, especially 2 years after losing my own grandfather to a drunk driver
