We don’t know what the FBI (or whoever) did or did not do, and who is saying this is a “lone wolf scenario”? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the older brother, at least, was part of or in communication with some Islamist or Chechnyan Separatist group.
The elder man had set off red flags while in Russia and they were enough to get him kicked out of a family home. So, the surveillance may have been during the periods when he was in Russia.
Some relatives seem to claim he’d been radicalized in the US, others seem to say he’d been radicalized (or maybe trained) while over seas.

No matter what his source of ideology or training, they are responsible for their actions and their actions are what caused the explosions. The only way I could see that an ‘outside influence’ being of a direct concern is if they actually provided supplies for the recent bombing. Otherwise, they’re a group to be watched (and to track their associations).

No I don’t think the mother’s comments need review. The mother of criminals usually defend their children and don’t think their precious little angels could have done such a thing. That is quite normal.
Not this kind of stupid. Otherwise events like this would be more common. 19 is rather old to be called a “kid” anyway, and the older brother at 26 is hardly a “kid”. Even for a 19 year old, the kind of “stupid” they can be expected to do is drive drunk or sleep around without using protection; not run around blowing people up. That goes well beyond merely stupid.

No, it’s a matter of fact that very few “kids”, including really, really stupid ones run around throwing bombs. That’s a fact, not my opinion. And a 26 year old is only a “kid” to the sort of person who calls everyone who doesn’t have grey hair a kid.

Yeah, the average kid isnt that stupid (and or smart in some ways as these guys) but on occasion young(er) people can be amazingly stupid. Don’t just look at their plan to bomb, look at their plan (or lack there of) to get away and or do more bombing. It was apparently non-existent/ ubber retarded. Yeah, we will plant some bombs at the Boston Marathon then continue AFTER that to plant some more AFTER the first wave of bombs. And we won’t even wear Groucho Marks masks while doing it.
No middle aged person would have had a plan that bad. Well, maybe they would but IMO it would be less likely. But the point stands, PEOPLE can be AMAZINGLY stupid and any arguement that “hey they couldn’t be that stupid, therefore there must be more to the story” is baloney.
I knew some decent kids in high school. Not even bad kids. But at one point they choose to do some seriously stupid shit. I suppose these many years later they are now finally out of jail. And that ratio is only lets say a few outa a few thousand, not a couple outa a couple of million every decade or so. “Few” is a much bigger number than zero.

Hi people! I was stumbling on the internet to see if I could bump up some people really questioning if it was a frame or not and I have found you. I just want to inform you about some facts about Muslim people from Caucasia. First of all, I am Turkish. Believe or not, you don’t know our territory. Most of US citizens think that all of the people from muslim countries look like Osama bin Laden and have similar ideas.
Chechens are fighting against Russia to gain independence almost since the fall of USSR. Most of these militans are realigious and nationalist ignorant young guys. Even some Turkish idiots go to fight for Chechens just because they are muslim and fighting against mostly christian Russian forces.
The thing is, yes, there are this kind of people in this area, I mean ignorant muslims who are willing to fight, but they are minority. At least half of the people in most of the muslim countries are open minded people. It’s easy to speak for me because my country is a secular democratic country which is a candidate to be a member of European Union. But even we now have a religious prime minister, who is trying to put pressure on open minded people and freedom of speech here by changing laws and marking almost everyone that he doesn’t like as a terrorist or subversive and he has CIA behind him indirectly. You should research the guy named Fethullah Gülen about this matter and see how CIA has given him American citizenship and some grants in exchange to use his diciples to do their conspiracies here.
Anyway, my point is people like me go out when they have chance to live abroad beause living in a muslim country is so exhausting. Dealing with ignorant religious people with support of an aggresive, greedy, egomaniac prime minister is really hard. That’s same and even worse for other countries. Here in Turkey, we can at least fight with their ideas and take actions. In countries like Iran, people get killed, tortured, etc.
What I am saying is, it looks like to me that these guys are open minded guys who are enjoying life and got so many things to lose. If you really have a life and enjoy it, you don’t risk your life. It’s the key point to become either to be a terrorist or street thug, right?
I read that the muslim student community leader of the university of the younger one studied stated that he was almost never participating events and helping the muslim student community. Instead, he was doing drugs, having sex, partying, etc…
I am telling you, a guy with this portrait can’t be a terrorist. I was born, raised and now living in a muslim country and I am sure of it. At least he won’t do it for religious reasons. He has to be a psychopat to kill all of these people like other psychopats shoots at little kids in elementary schools in US. When that happens, some part of the media don’t even claim it as a terror act, but when killers are from a muslim family, not regarding if they are religious or even guilty or not, they are labeled as terrorist.

“Kid” is a relative term. The older brother, Tamalan, was married and had a three year old daughter. He was also acting as a father figure to his brother after their parents moved back to Russia. By all accounts, he really turned into a religious fundamentalist in the last couple of years and exerted a profound influence upon his brother.
