SWAT practice near me

A few small towns have a combined SWAT team in our area. The range is about 1 1/2 miles away but with the right wind I can hear them shoot. I haven’t heard them much at all this summer.

Today it is steady full auto practice in 3 round bursts, probably M16s.

Part-time SWAT composed of officers from a variety of Podunk PDs doesn’t inspire my confidence.

Better that they practice, then that they wing it. I hope that they put together a plan and stick with it.

I’m sure they’re very excited to start executing no-knock warrants for fail to appear on drug paraphernalia charges.

So which is it?

I wish I had an M16 A2.

Well, they are shooting quite a few rounds at once, but you can make out the bursts. I used to run the practical defense matches at a shooting club. They are most likely running through a scenario with multiple threats and laying a burst on each one.

But I did think about the phrase, wondering if anyone would call it out!

I’m not sure, but I think the civilian M4s are equipped with only 2 settings on the safety: Safe, Semi, Burst.

:dubious: Isn’t that three?

Bet you that’s exactly what they’re shooting.

If it has BURST, it’s still a machinegun.

Guess so! How about only 2 firing modes.

Dennis

No, you would ignore the safe setting as a shooting mode.

So it would be no pew, pew, pew pew, full rock and roll.

SWAT practice is nothing.

It’s not unusual for us to hear artillery and/or tank practice. And it’s damn loud.

We also have an air force base less than 10 miles away, so we hear the jets as well.
