Inspired by the sweater sleeve forearm length thread.
I’ll confess to the forearm just because-if I’m wearing a sweater the sleeves tend to go down on my hands, which makes me kind of uncomfortable trying to write/eat ,or use hands in an unencumbered manner.
So what’s with the sleevedraped on the base of the hands thing I see in a lot of women’s blouses/sweaters,etc.?
Guessing someone saw this as fashionable, and it’s certainly not new since I noticed it on Hepburn in a 30s/40s movie or 2.
One female friend told me it makes hands appear smaller which is supposed to be desirable in females.
Is this it?Is there actually a style or designer that popularizes these things?
Every time I see one on a female in a restaurant I picture her sleeve dripping from an encounter in a soupplate
umm my arms are proportionately short in relation to my shoulder width, body length and cleavage size… if it fits those spots the cuffs will be below my rings.
So you never thought about getting it * tailored * so the sleeve length doesn’t cover the hands?
Men’s shirts (mostly dress) come in neck/sleeve length.Since women also have a waist/inseam in jeans or pants, why not blouses?Sweaters are more easily remedied, but women (some) don’t seem to avail themselves of this opportunity.
Well the short answer would be “cause I am too freakin cheap”
But seriously, I don’t wear blouses. I am too butch. I wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, men’s button down shiirts on occasion. I usually roll up the cuffs or pull them up to my mid forearms. I don’t let them drag through food well not on purpose.
Uh, most women’s pant sizes do NOT have a waist/inseam measurement for size. I wish they did! The best you may get is Average, Long, or maybe Petite. I always have to try on pants to find out if they fit, but I can buy men’s pants in my size and be pretty sure they’ll fit.
Yes, I will buy men’s jeans because THEY FIT BETTER, generally.
Maybe some women get their sleeves tailored. I’ve never seen it happen though.
A couple of years ago I remember they did long sleeved tshirts with extra long sleeves and I’m pretty sure they were called Monkey sleeves. It can make your arms look longer if it’s a fitted shirt and it gives a lankier impression. I prefer longer sleeves whenever possible because my hands get cold.
I notice that in the movies the extra long sleeves are usually used to show that someone is the one that will fall in love instead of the one who will have a hot affair. I think it’s supposed to infantalize the character a bit, or make her look like she is very harmless.
