Doubtful. The attacker of the Paris mayor was an Algerian Muslim. The murderer of Pim Fortuyn was motivated by fanatical support for Muslim ‘immigrants’.
From my understanding, the hard left in Sweden is extremly opposed to some of the fiscal regulations that come along with the Euro, thinking that it will threaten their socialist state. This attack was probably carried out by some fanatical leftist.
This is a tragedy.

I don’t pay that much attention to Swedish politics, so I might be completely wrong here, but didn’t the neo-nazis label Anna Lindh as traitor to her country recently?
There is no straight “left for, right against” split here. There are many people from all over the political spectrum who are anti-Euro.

It was in Arvika, on the other side of Sweden from Stockholm (i.e. near Norway). The child was dead on arrival at the hospital, Police suspect a psychiatric patient.

The thing is, when right-wing anti-democratic fucking dipshits (i.e. neo-nazis) rally and commit crime, it’s such a big atrocity. When left-wing anti-democratic fucking dipshits do the same, they’re just misguided youths.
Well I’m fucking tired of that. ‘Reclaims the streets’ bullshit (reclaim from whom, for what?), anti-globalisation demonstrations where the strong argument is to throw bricks trough store windows and torching trucks from McD. I don’t care about the motives, because many of those that commit these crimes don’t even fucking know why they do it. It’s just to sorta… you know, protest against the… um… establishment, kinda.
These people are criminals with as little respect for democracy as the dipshit neo-nazis on the right.
Maybe it was a lone madman. But given the quality of debate leading up to the referendum, I really, really doubt that it would be a person from the extreme right, should the motive be political.
Anna Lindh was a fabulous politician. Strong and hard as steel, when needed, while showing loads of compassion and empathy at all other times. Always well read (and a law school major), with good strong arguments. She recently critisized the Italian government harshly and was never afraid when someone picked a political fight with her. She would have made a great prime minister (she was being groomed for the job).
Most of all, she was a good person, and there are too few of those in politics. She had strong beliefs and she fought for those beliefs and never sold out. I admired her for that, and for her genuine desire to do good, while not being a wishy-washy do-gooder, if that makes sense at all
We live in the US but still follow Swedish politics. Have relatives personally involved in the EMU debate as well. MrValley woke me up this morning to tell me that Anna Lindh had died. It was like a kick in the stomach. I feel terrible for her two young boys.
Well, I didn’t say anything of interest to anyone but me, but thanks for giving me a place to say it.
Yeah, it’s almost as bad as when the mainstream media and conservatives imply, or even state outright, that these violent dipshits constitue the majority of the anti-globalization (or whatever) crowds, rather than a very small, visually-prominent minority.
On the issue of Lindh’s murder. i think i’ll wait until they find out who did it, rather than just conclude that it was some left-wing nutjob, in the absence of any evidence whatsoever.
I have recently moved to Göteborg and follow these procedings with great sadness.
All i can hope is that if it IS an anti-EMU plot/nut, that this despicable act serves as a solidifying act AGAINST the very motives that drove this vile atrocity.
I hope to call this country home with my new wife and enjoy the openess and freedom it brings. This news just serves to show that in this day and age there is no true “safe” land.
Friday morning update.
The police now have a suspect. A 32 y.o.man is wanted for questioning. The alleged killer is a drug addict with a history of violence, and is judged as mentally unstable. According to one newspaper source, he’s been seen earlier in life doing nazi salutes and hanging around with skinheads.
So lonely right-wing anti-democratic fucking dipshit.
And I’m sure some poster here are happy that I was wrong, as it looks right now.

Last time there was a political murder in Finland, in the -30ties, it was made by a far right guy.
The meanining was to put the blame on the far left, but the assassine shot himself (litteraly) in his leg and could not escape.
All shit about that he is from this wing or that wing, is just pure speculations.
(Even if i really believe that he is a neo-nazi = insane.)
