Swedish language help needed

Does anyone know of a good site in English to locate a person in Sweden?

Or, if that’s not possible (silly non-Swedish-person that I am) is there a decent translator for webpages?

I have a specific address, I need to know who is living at that address.

I don’t think that’s possible - at least, I don’t know any way. The other way works: if you have a name, you can generally find out where they live. Or, if you have part of a name and part of an address, you can find out both, for example: if you go to http://www.hitta.se and fill in my mother’s last name in the first field, and the name of her street in the second, you’ll get her full name and address. However, if you don’t have any part of the name, I don’t think you can find it out.

Haven’t found one in English either, and on the ‘official’ whitepages either a first or last name is required. http://privatpersoner.eniro.se/avancerad/

http://www.systransoft.com/index.html is the first hit at google for “swedish to english” webpage translate , and does a so so job, but it might help you. (It doesn’t seem to handle compound nouns.)

Go to http://privatpersoner.eniro.se/avancerad/ and use the following dictionary as a guide. You don’t need to fill in all the fields.

Förnamn = First name
Efternamn = Last name
Postnr. = Zip code. Swedish zip codes are five digits, such as “123 45”.
Postort = City
Katalogområde = Phonebook area (if you know the general area the person lives in)
Arbetsplats = Place of work (only for company-owned phone numbers)
Telefonnr/mobilnr = Phone number/mobile phone number
Visa alla/endast fasta telnr/endast mobilnr: Show all/only non-mobile/only mobile phone numbers
Sök = find

Good luck!

As I mentioned above this doesn’t allow searches without a name, but I thought of one way of getting around that. You’ll have to do 20-something* searches though.
Put in the address, put a letter in either the first or last name box, change the dropdown menu from “exact” to “börjar med” (Begins with). Go through with ever letter of the alphabet.

*I don’t know if the search routine recognises ä, ö or å as separate letters or not

Ah yes, you need to fill in at least part of the name. I’m not sure why this should be - maybe there’s some legal reason? Or just bad web design.

I hope you found the phone number you where looking for. Otherwise, you could always call +46 649 118 118, the information service at Telia, the national carrier - they speak English and will be happy to help you.
