Sweet Mother of God, Hip-Hop Sucks!

Why is that strange? I’m another old white guy and am TOTALLY unfamiliar with any of it.

I’m a white guy and have been called old. I don’t love all hip hop, but I love the crap out of some of it.

Country music though, is like listening to a cat being tortured.

At this point in time, it’s roughly akin to someone in 1999 saying they’re totally unfamiliar with rock & roll.

No, because rock was good. Well, not in 1999…

So is a volume control.

So is telling him what you want instead of being passive aggressive.

So this thread is just cranky old farts screaming at clouds and reminiscing about onions on their belts. Cool.

Nothing screams “rock ‘n’ roll” like complaining about today’s music!

Word.

Wait, has there been a hip hop track less than 30 years old posted yet?

#SDMBOldWhiteGuysRepresentin

Yeah about half of them so far…? I don’t think MGK is even 30 years old himself. Hamilton. Eminem & Rihanna.

(RIP Lisa Lopez and Adam Yauch, aka Left-Eye and MCA)

Sure, Sturgeon’s Law is in full effect with both rap and hip-hop. But considering you can go back 40 years now and listen only to the stuff that has held up over time, there’s quite a lot, as was listed earlier. Sure, it may be cliche for a white guy to like, say, the Beastie Boys or House of Pain or Everlast’s solo work (which is as much blues as it as anything else) or other stuff from 25+ years ago and so on, but it’s good stuff that’s fairly accessible. Personally, I think stuff like trap and mumble rap and a lot of the stuff that came from SoundCloud is absolutely terrible, but that could just as easily be that I’m old. That said, your roommate is being a jerk by not using headphones.

Not familiar with MGK but the person who posted it said it wasn’t hip hop…Hamilton is a soundtrack. I’ll give you Eminem/Rihanna. OK, I’m starting to sound like an insufferable Doper pedant. Let’s rock out!

lol i have the ultimate song that always pissed everyone off Ice-T and slayer singing about the first gulf war … although the whole soundtrack pissed people off lol . one of the few soundtracks where more people bought it than seen the movie

and of course the ultimate 90s la hood anthem

I had a live version of this via napster where he sang this in a Katrina benefit some club had and he gave out the intro but added "this isn’t for the 50 or so cops that stayed this is for the pussies who ran and left the big easy to die " the crows cheered/roared so much he had to wait to start the song

That song still sends chills up my spine. Rest of the album sucked, though.

ANY music being played loudly sucks. I’d have an especially hard time listening to loud Christian or country…or Christian country, if that’s a thing.

dropzone, get your daughter to pop for a pair of bluetooth headphones for your roommate. Present them as a gift “that’ll make us both happy.” Your other alternative: play Lawrence Welks’ polkas at the same decibel level. Sure, it’ll be hard on you, but only temporarily.

I once put my stereo speakers business side against the wall, crank up the volume of the stero to max, put on my favorite bagpipe CD on continuous play, then leave the building when I had a neighbor in the barracks room next to me who played crap, er, rap loudly at ridiculous times and at volume. Oddly enough, the bagpipe cranking out got his attention and after that, we both played our chosen genre at a reasonable volume and time.
