I have no sweet tooth at all. I would much rather eat salty and spicy.
Umami FTW.
Sweeeeeet all the way, baby!
Male, salty.
I don’t dislike desserts, but one or two cookies, or a small slice of pie, or whatever is generally sufficient. On the other hand I can down a large bag of chips (+onion dip if potato, +salsa if corn) in a sitting. Thankfully my blood pressure doesn’t seem to be sensitive to salt.
Salty, with a similar gender division in my household as the OP.
OTOH, my brother-in-law loves sweets, and is only getting it through his head that I don’t share his love very slowly. Visiting him is often a long string of refusing to eat his favorite sweets.
Overall I chose sweet, but really it depends.
I prefer salty popcorn, snacks, veggies (they frequently serve tomatoes with sugar here in China). Dishes that are too salty for my wife could still be in my agreeable range. Tea and coffee are better without sugar. There’s a Mongolian milk tea that is very salty that I sometimes have craving for. When I was younger, I would sometimes eat salt directly.
However, I love desserts - any kind. My wife will sometimes keep extra frosting in the fridge after making cookies or cake as a stand-alone treat for me. A meal seems incomplete without some small sweet treat at the end.
Female here. Today it’s salty, another time I might want something sweet. You need to put a little salt in the sweet things, otherwise they just taste insipid. I frequently want either the sweet or salty thing to also be spicy.
So often, Puly can serve as my spokesman and no exception here.
I outgrew my sweet tooth sometime in high school and never touch candy*, desserts and the like.
The only exception is that I make a point to have some wedding cake at receptions but this is so I can say I did rather than my own enjoyment.
I will add sugar or a sweet ingredient (like pomegranate molasses) to some dishes for balance or as a minor component to an otherwise savory items like a glaze on a meatloaf.
*I bought something like six pounds of Halloween candy this (well, last) year since I’ve run out before. The weather was horrible by any definition and I gave away maybe 20% to the couple dozen kids who did show up. The rest sat next to my front door till I gave it all away two months later at a Christmas party and a bar I frequent. I never had a single piece and it was stuff I loved 25 years ago like Reese’s peanut butter cups, Twix and assorted Hershey’s bars.
If I could only have one, it would be the salt flavored one. Without thinking long at all. I want both, and you are a cruel person for that denial.
I’m a little cruel.
If I had to live without my sweets…well, I just don’t even want to think about it.
I can’t pick. I’m going to have to say “sour.” I can go sweet or salty with that…but I can’t live without sour. I never really thought about it that way till now.
In that case I voted Salty, taking that as a synonym for Savoury.
I eat very little salt, or sugar for that matter, but my eating preferences are definitely savoury.
Cheese and crackers instead of desert any time
Peanuts over lollies for nibbling
Bacon and eggs rather than sweet stuff for breakfast.
Everything you listed as liking is salty. Except maybe the eggs.
Lifelong “salty.” Preferably with grease.
That reminds me… I have some chicharrones in the fridge.
