Swept Away - what about the ending? (spoiler)

I’ll admit to being a Madonna fan, and that’s the only reason I watched this lame movie. But, despite the panning Madonna’s gotten over her acting, I’d say the writing/directing of this movie is what moved it into new heights of lameness.

So, let’s talk about this ending. I cannot believe what I saw, so I have to ask if I got it right. Amber’s husband intercepts the note from Peppe, so at the time Amber is getting into the helicopter, she must believe that Peppe does not want her (sniff). But, then the husband hands her the note with “the tip”. Clearly, he knows what’s up, and seems to be offering her one last chance to get away (given her personality, I’d think he’d be glad to get rid of her) (but seriously, I don’t think we have any reason to believe he would fight to keep her).

But then, Amber simply passes the note on, apparently not realizing what she’s doing. Do I have this right? Is this the lamest ending to a movie you’ve ever seen? We’re supposed to believe she’s too dumb to notice or be curious about the note and the $100 tip?

The only alternative is to think that she realizes that it’s Peppe’s note, but is to ashamed to act on it in the presence of her husband. Still, a lame ending.

And, why would this be “the end” of the story anyway? Surely, these two can find each other in some other place and time and straighten out this stupid miscommunication. Especially Peppe should not give up, after hearing her promise to do whatever he wanted, and being willing to risk discovery by running to the dock.

Tell me it ain’t so.
