Swing Voters, Please Explain Yourselves

It’s getting late; I should go to bed. I didn’t read Plan B’s post carefully enough. Thought he was talking about the War in Iraq. I now see he was talking about the war on terror. However, I don’t think that’s being handled well either.

I guess I’m a swing voter. In a perfect world, I wouldn’t have to choose between candidates who both seem to have their problems. I don’t like the war in Iraq, but that’s past history. I don’t see Kerry having many differences over our exit strategy there,

Do you mean you’re undecided? You actually sound kinda decided, as all of your ponts except #1 are reasons to vote against Bush. And #1 is in favor of neither.

Past history? Well, the decision to go to war is past history, but the war isn’t past history as long as our troops are occupying Iraq.

For those who see little difference between Bush and Kerry on Iraq, there are other issues to consider. For one thing, you’ve got a President who has been hard at work rolling back decades of environmental gains vs. a candidate who gets a high grade from the League of Conservation Voters.

Hazel, I would like to point out that Kerry did vote in favor of the Patriot Act, which leaves him at least as much to blame for that as the administration. Likewise, the Democratic party is traditionally the party of increased Federal power and privelege. Until and unless Kerry address reducing the size of the Federal bureaucracy this is another wash, IMNSHO, for the two candidates.

The criticisms of aspects of the way that the Iraq occupation have been handled are all on the administration, though.

Of course, for Kerry to make an issue about the families of troops being unfairly put upon to supply personal armor for the troops after he’d voted against a spending bill that contained monies to supply that seems a little… off. (shrug)

Hazel,

Don’t worry about the sleep deprivaton, it happens to the best of us. To address your comments, I think the war on terror and the Iraq War are pretty much the same thing. If anything I think the Iraq War is being handled better. The prohibition on strip searching three Arabs on any one flight is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard of, but otherwise they seem to be getting results, i.e. no attacks in the U.S. since 9/11. And my polite challenge in post # 37 stands - I am genuinely interested in hearing of a war that was conducted more efficiently. Since I’ve posted it one of my friends mentioned Grenada as an example, but I’m not sure that’s fair.

As for the economy and tax cuts, Neal Boortz does a pretty good job of explaining why taxing the “rich” hurts everyone. He’s a bit more sarcastic than I like so I suggest you read past that. Just scroll down to the item that mentions Kerry’s Tax Plan.

And, whoever you vote for, I sincerely hope that the bad guys don’t succeed in hurting anyone in your home town.
Why tax cuts help the entire economy

I qualify as a swing voter, because my politics have mutated over the years. I have been a registered Democrat, Republican, and Libertarian. I am a fervent liberal on socail matters, a rabid conservative on economic matters, and a homicidal psychopath on Foreign Affairs. I don’t trust the Democrats to protect my right to bear arms, and the Republicans have lost me by courting the religious Right. Libertarians just aren’t logical, and none of them have a workable idea about anything. I just want the gummint to leave me the hell alone.

Better get out the old quarter…election time is near!
