Swiss Army Knife spring replacement (again!)

I bought my first Swiss Army Knife in 1982. The Champion – not the Swisschamp, the Champion. (I’d love to have another one.) Two years ago the spring broke and I asked for tips on replacing it.

The replacement spring broke the other week. Replacements came today. It’s a little annoying that the original spring lasted 31 years (not 20, as I guessed in the other thread), and the replacement only lasted two years. This time I put the extra replacement springs where I know I can find them. (The replacement went in easier, now that I know how to do it.)

I guess I should have stated that the spring is for the scissors. :smack:

The scissor spring is definitely the weak link. The Wenger design is better.

I have had this SAK for over 15 years

The spring died a few times. Repaired in Connecticut. TSA captured one.

But, I love it. Much better than a wallet, when it comes to paper money.

I just scored a vintage, NIB Champion on eBay. Remember the burgundy boxes?

And… It was waiting on my desk when I came into the office this morning.

I got a laugh that the only actual instructions on the instruction sheet were on how to use the can opener.

Anyway the scissors spring has been replaced on my 1982 Champion that is still in use (and on which, one of dad’s coworkers damaged the tip of the small blade back in the mid-'80s), and now I have a ‘pristine example’ for my collection of stuff and junk.
