Swollen feet

You’re not my doctor, blahblahblah.

I just got back from Mississippi. My ankles and lower legs have been eaten by insects. Working on my friend’s film, it was up at six, have a cuppa joe – two, if I was lucky – load up the gear, go to the location, unload the truck, work all day (six, seven, eight o’clock PM) in high temperatures and humidity, pizza for lunch, usually fast food (or leftover pizza) for dinner, eight days straight, except for one day we were rained out, excreting more water with sweat than with urine (no, really), cramped airplane rides coming and going… I just noticed my feet are swollen. This hasn’t happened before except for when I’ve sprained an ankle. Freaking me out a little.

The SO is a nurse, and she doesn’t seem concerned. She said she’d give me some Lasix if she had any. Or maybe she’d lend me her compression socks.

Has anyone had this happen? Is it really just that I’d been on my feet for 12 hours a day for the past week-plus?

If this persists after a week or 2 back home I might be worried. Otherwise, don’t fret it.

Make sure you are hydrating and peeing as expected. But yeah it happens for a short time sometimes. If it lasts too long - and your SO will know - then be worried.

You’re not diabetic, are you?

It was hard staying hydrated, it was so hot and we were so busy. Should be easier now.

The SO made me put on her compression socks, and told me to take them off before I go to bed. She said to keep drinking liquids. I’m lying on the couch to keep my feet relatively higher.

She said when she went to El Salvador and was working in that heat, her legs were like stovepipes. She said, ‘Remember when we went to New Orleans? My legs were so swollen after that flight!’ (And it was a hellishly long trip that time.) She wants me to wear the socks to work tomorrow, but she says there’s nothing to worry about.

Weird, though.

ETA: Chefguy, I just had a complete physical (with blood work) a couple of months ago, and the results came back normal.

You need leaches!

Malaria, got any Quinine?

That’s happens to me often when camping or on a vacation when I walk a lot. It helps to put on my sneakers and tie them tightly, so pretty much what your very smart wife had you do.
