Sxsw 2007!

Dude, it totally used to be way cooler  before it got so over-hyped. Used to be, it was easy to find a friend with an extra wristband or two; nowdays, everything is going for insane prices on eBay. Everyone’s just trying to make a monster profit. And the packs of roving hipsters who don’t ever take off their lariats are cloggin’ up my restaurants…

I just briefly skimmed the list, but I saw the Broken West are gonna be there again. You should definitely check them out. They just put out their first full length album and changed their name(someone else named Brokedown). I’d love their music even if I wasn’t friends with the lead singer’s family. And thanks to them I have a shirt with a sloth on it.

I was tickled to pieces that Shearwater got a great mention on NPR this morning by a contributor who saw them play in the rain at SXSW last year and was really moved. They do a great show, even the abbreviated ones I’ve seen alongside Okkervil River. Man, I wish SXSW wasn’t so many hundreds of miles away… :frowning:

Saw them last night, in fact, in between the Rosebuds and a poorly-kept “secret” show by Spoon.

I hear that my man Pete got an enthusiatic welcome during his Keynote speech, and he joined Ian McLagan on stage to play a few Ronnie Lane tunes.

Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band

If at all possible, try not to miss them at the Molotov Lounge TOMORROW NIGHT (Friday the 16th)! Here’s their MySpace page so you can hear what they sound like, though recordings don’t do their live sound justice:

They’re a lot of fun, and you won’t believe the big sound that comes from just 3 band members (vocalist-guitarist-songwriter Josh Peyton, his drums-playing brother Jayme Peyton, and Josh’s Washboard-playing wife Breezy Peyton). Josh is a PHENOMENAL guitarist who, if he doesn’t ruin his hands and throat by their relentless touring schedule, will be a legend one day. Catch the band now while you can. The music sounds old but it was all written by Josh Peyton, and all 3 band members are under 25.
