Start from the beginning, otherwise it won’t make sense. It’s based on a comic that I haven’t read. Wyat Earp’s offspring need to re-kill all of the people Wyat shot back in the day. Clever dialog, sexy babes, and Doc Holiday as an immortal scamp.
Damn. I watched this one from the beginning, and always looked forward to its next season.
^ This. The overall plot was quite different (with DM showing more of a focus on identity and the question ‘can a bad person change?’), but the vibe was similar to that of Firefly–a mix of humor and adventure and sci-fi ideas, with well-drawn characters.
But the total number of episodes isn’t enough for syndication. So Dark Matter (and Defiance) will be lost to all but the memories of we Fifty.
3 seasons but only 39 episodes. Too short a run. # Seasons wasn’t bad in the days of 22+ episodes per season, but now it is too short for a good show.
Defiance had a solid ending at least, not a cliffhanger. I don’t understand why Killjoys got two more seasons in order to finish their story but this got outright canceled.
With Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Crackle et al looking for content, less than 100 episodes isn’t the death knell it once was.
The killjoys lead is about to go hollywood, locking her in for two more years makes financial sense, as her salary requirements and availability will change, if she makes the break out.
Speaking of warehouse 13, it only had 4.5 seasons and towards the end of its run, it was getting tired. It was supposed to be canceled after season 4, but the network people either decided that the story arc needed to be finished in such a way to move to warehouse 14 in a future reboot, or simply made the existing fans happy and exited the show.
True. Don’t know if we’ll see DM available, though; no major stars or other hook. I hope it will be available, of course.
It is already on Netflix actually. I’m hoping they may decide to give the show more episodes.
That would be great! It can’t be all that expensive a show to make, surely–it doesn’t have a lot of special effects, despite it being science fiction.
SyFy: the new Fox
And the sets are built and the actors are mostly nobodies from Canada. Can’t cost more than ten–fifteen bucks to make one.
I sometimes model myself as the android when I’m telemarketing.
“Are you a robot?”
“No, ma’am, though you might assume that my programming would have me tell you I’m not.”
Then, with a little small talk about the Harley her husband has in the garage, I make the sale. A robot could do it, but it would need to judge when it can try the Harley Gambit.
Last episode did have an honest to goodness space battle though.
If it were up to me, I’d have split the difference and given each one more season to wrap up. Or, if I had to choose, I’d have gone for DM over Killjoys (I like both shows, but Killjoys killed off one character I really liked and I can hold a grudge!)
I first found this show on Netflix or Amazon and hope that one of those pick it up in the future. It isn’t the best science fiction ever, but it consistently entertaining.
Ryo, however, has got to be the dumbest emperor in the history of totalitarianism.
Apparently the main reason Killjoys got picked up and DM didn’t is that Killjoys is a Syfy original and DM was an acquisition.
