T.M.S's C.M.J. R.I.P.

Test Match Special has been a feature in my sporting life for as long as I can remember. It has kept me amused and enthralled through many a long winter night and bright summer day.
The secret of its success is the quality and character of the commentators and very sadly I hear today that they have one fewer to choose from (assuming he’d turn up in the first place).

Christopher Martin Jenkins has passed on. I knew he was ill but one always hopes.

He brought me much joy and I’m sure he’ll be badly missed by cricket lovers everywhere. A lovely little piece was published in the Guardian

For those unfamiliar with TMS it stands for “Test Match Special” and it is a BBC radio program that uses a team of commentators, working in rotation to cover the full five days of England test matches wherever they take place in the world. It is something of an institution and the commentary team is full of characters whose distinguishing talent is their ability to fill the hours and days with comment, humour and education. Even when there is precious little happening on the field.
