So, one of the stories I haven’t seen a lot about either on this board or really in most media, is the ongoing cluster fuck between the WHO and Taiwan. In a nut shell, the WHO has cut Taiwan completely out of the discussions and information flow, both ways, during this crisis. Their reason (well, the reason they give, not the actual reason which has to do with that sweet, sweet Chinese funding…and the risk to said funding if they cross Beijing) is that Taiwan is a part of China. Except, it isn’t. Not in any sense, but specifically, not in the sense that China (the mainland) actually has an information flow from or to Taiwan wrt the outbreak. Sure, not in any other sense either, except in the minds of the CCP, but practically not in the sense that, as stated, information is flowing either to Taiwan from, oh, say the WHO, or from Taiwan too the WHO.
Probably means nothing to most of you, but think about that for a moment. Let it sink in. The WHO is not sharing information with a country of 23 million people, and hasn’t for months during a major pandemic. The media, unsurprisingly, hasn’t really picked up on this either, though there is a BBC article on it here which doesn’t really go into the details but does at least address it. The real issue is that Taiwan is also a country that has done the best…full stop…of any country on the planet in combating the virus. Yet, not much about this. Lots about China and their wonder hospitals, and the joys of authoritarian rule during a crisis, and why can’t we be like them? Not much about how the CCPs fuckups put us here, of course, but again that’s not surprising.
As this isn’t a debate forum, it’s more just me trying to put out information that people don’t seem to know about. What scares me most about this outbreak is how scary things have gotten wrt the narrative with China, and how people are sucking up the propaganda, and don’t even think about stuff like this…or what the implications are that a supposedly neutral world agency is dancing to the CCPs strings, and by their actions legitimizing those actions.
