Take a guess at when you will end up being vaccinated

– hey, that was actually a pretty good guess, made clear back in December, for an actual March 4 result.

Am I missing something? That’s the same CDC data that doesn’t break down by vaccine type.

My wife was at the grocery store this a.m. She asked the pharmacy for any info. They said they had NO supplies for 1st vaccs, and thru end of March, would be providing only 2d shots.

Of course, the on-line site says no such thing.

Man, this is fucked up.

I didn’t know if it was different than the data you had in hand. Worth a shot (please forgive that little play on words).

Got a bit lucky with the call-in to get the initial appointment, but wife and I both got our second shots this afternoon. So my first vaccination was actually earlier than my guess.

Now, in my small county, there are several providers offering vaccinations to the 65+ crowd, first responders, and school personnel. Anybody in one of those 3 groups can call for an appointment and get the first shot within a week.

I didn’t make a specific guess back in December, but thought I’d be in the “everyone else” category. Turns out, I’ll be eligible on 3/24! North Carolina has said anyone with at least one thing on a long list of risk factors will be able to get one then. Things like BMI of 25+ or having smoked at least 100 cigarettes during your lifetime are on there. Honestly, I think that will cover 95% of North Carolinians.

My heart was broken by Claire in 8th grade - so I should definitely get my shot before her.

My friend snagged me an appointment an hour and a half away in another county for which I met the announced criteria. After the fact, the county strong-armed the pharmacy chain and made them refuse to vaccinate anyone who didn’t live or work in that county. So they cancelled my appointment. Which is really annoying, as anyone statewide can get vaccinated at a private pharmacy where I am.

I can’t say I’m sorry not to have to do two round-trips of a minimum 3 - 4 hours each, but fer chrissakes, I wish these organizations would get their shit together and figure out what their rules are and be consistent.

Santa Barbara County has been vaccinating 65+ for a while. On March 1st they opened up to food workers and anyone who works for a school. On March 15th they will add people with health conditions off of a fairly long list. Notoriously, one of those is obesity. I’m not on the hate train for that but over 30% of America is classified as obese so it may be a while for me.

I just talked to my sister. I am not going to be very specific but she found a glitch in the system where effectively anyone can get an appointment slot. The entity giving the shots aren’t double checking. She is a very healthy 55 year old. Her attitude was that under the current criteria a 22 year old who is a Door Dash driver can get one, a healthy person who works in accounting from home at the local junior college can get one, fuck it, I’m getting one. I tried her trick (but didn’t go all the way to make an appointment) and it worked.

I want to throttle people who do that. The categories are designed that way for a reason! Plenty of seniors, teachers, etc. in my state still haven’t been vaccinated. My BIL, who has just about every preexisting condition on the list and would likely be a dead man if he got sick (he was just hospitalized with blood sugar of 600, among other things) hasn’t gotten vaccinated yet because he is under 65. (I have crappy lungs and have been prioritized for that reason, and I am waiting my turn. Door Dash drivers, if healthy, may not be at higher risk than anyone else, but they are exposed to a lot more people than someone who works from home and can easily become spreaders if infected…

It’s basically impossible to make the categories granular enough such that it will be a totally fair system. I can wait.

My prediction turned out to be true – vaccinated yesterday via the military. My unit is just about 1/3 vaccinated, and if we’re not going to go much over 50% (which is what we’re on track for) there weren’t a whole lot of people left who wanted the vaccine but weren’t in the first wave of priority recipients. I suspect by April everyone who wants a vaccine will have had at least the first dose and then the higher ups are going to have to have a long think about their “optional” vaccination policy.

Aaaaand back to the clusterfuck. Chicago has a mass site that was supposed to open to under 65 in 1b+ at 4 pm today. At 3:50, they announced it was for Chicagoans only. And of course the site is crashing from traffic, so even though I still qualify, I can’t schedule anyway.

UPDATE: I got logged out and when I finally managed to log back in at 4:18, all appointments were gone. I guess I will keep checking back in case they start cancelling appointments for non-Chicagoans.

And it’s not just me imagining that it’s harder to get a vaccine in Chicago proper than elsewhere in the state - the change to the United Center vaccination criteria were made when numbers showed that only 40% of the seniors who were vaccinated in the 65+ phase of the United Center site were Chicago residents. I mean I am all for seniors having access to vaccines, but if I can’t go to any Cook County-run sites because Chicago has its own health department, then I should be eligible to go somewhere!

Meanwhile, there seems to be tons of availability in Carbondale and Springfield at the state-run sites. Perhaps they should rethink how the allocations are determined.

Yet another update - after an hour of continuous refreshing, the site finally functioned and I managed to book an appointment for 2 weeks from today. Woohoo! I imagine they took the server offline to reconfigure everything for the change in eligibility.

I saw this site https://www.hidrb.com/ suggested and did a little research on it and it seems legit, but it makes me sideeye a little. Anyone heard of it, know any more? Think it’s worth the risk? This is its description

The standby list for leftover COVID vaccines

Leftovers happen. People miss their appointments. Vials come with extra doses. Any thawed vials must be used within 6 hours, or they get thrown out.

Looking to get vaccinated but can’t get an appointment? Join the standby list to get connected with local providers with extra doses.

I’ve seen it posted on the local vaccine hunter FB group. I think it’s legit and signed up myself.

Florida recently opened up to 50+ ages in certain professions. I’m not sure if this is for me,
A) a good sign because it shows we are making progress,
B) a neutral sign because Florida is opening up new categories for no good reason, or
C) a bad sign if it means Florida’s next opening would be everybody in the 50+ age range, which would exclude me.

UK, there was a glitch in my appointment time, but its apparently common enough they had a walk-in system - all I did was supply my NHS person number and that was it.

That is one of the real big benefits of UHC - records can follow you all over and so can the funding, no need to loads of eligibility or insurance cover checks
