She obviously doesn’t like where I’ve placed the litterbox, because she’s found another corner.
As recommended by bunny sites, I’m going to have to move the litterbox there, but not before having to vacuum up the billions of pellets she’s deposited there. But I feel like crap today (intense heat wave, no AC), and I really don’t want to haul out the vacuum, even though I have to. I’ve also tried catching her in the act, picking her up by the scruff of the neck, and putting her in the litterbox, but she growls at me, and she’s not exactly a small bunny.
If that doesn’t work, I’m going to have to give her to a farm or something. I plan on having a few Dopers stay with me for Montreal/QueerDope in August, and there’s no way I’m going to subject them to bunny poop.
Luckily, she isn’t chewing anything, but I’m still pissed off, in spite of the apparent lack of my usual Pit vitriol in this post. (I blame it on the heat.)
Hmm. When I opened this, I was expecting some sort of Scott Evil/Seth Green/Greg the Bunny meta-post. Just one more of life’s little disappointments, I guess.
Take her to the vet’s. It could just be a reaction to a new environment, or the litter itself. Of course, I only know how cats react, but just check with the vet, in case.
Oh, that sucks. <sigh> I’ve read your other Bunny threads, scott, and she sounded like a really good rabbit. You’re taking her in permanently, right? That’s what your other thread seemed to suggest. Good luck getting her to use her litter-box. I can’t offer any advice because other than watching every single episode of “Greg the Bunny,” I know very little about the fairer species. Best wishes to you.
Give her two or three litterboxes of various sizes, put some hay in them, and keep them clean. Ours are both box trained, and will lounge in their litterboxes, but if they’re not cleaned every two-three days, we get a small mound of poops right NEXT to to litterbox. Kind of like they’re saying “Excuse me, humans, but this won’t do. Until it’s cleaned, I’ll just put this riiight here, mmkay?”
If Bunny does need another permanent home, contact the House Rabbit Society, or its Canadian equivalent. Try www.rabbit.org for pointers.
Scott, you have to understand that rabbits LOVE having a “routine” in their lives. By that I mean that they do not take kindly to having their various pieces of wood that is approved for chewing by the bunny in residence to be moved or messed with. same thing with their meals. I f you give Bunny a treat at 8:00 PM, you’d damn well better give it to bunny EVERY night at 8:00 or bun will express their displeasure in various ways, which will likely include chewing.
That being said, you are doing the right thing by moving the litter box to where she deposited her “raisins.”
I don’t think you are supposed to pick rabbits up by the scruff. You need to support them under the hindquarters. She is probably growling at you because you are hurting her.
You’re right missbunny - scruff picking is a no-no. (At least according to my vet.)
I always scoop the boys up under their bellys and butts.
I think if you move the litter box to the corner that Bunny has picked, Scott she will continue to poop there. Just make sure to keep the pan clean. I know if the bunny pan in the Wonderland household gets a bit ooogie, Bart and Benny will pretty much doodie where ever the hell they please until I clean it. Blech.

Elly, who should be staying at the evil pad for Doperéal, et qui promet de ne pas préparer un bon petit lapin à la moutarde pour le repas du soir. (And that’s going to require a LOT of self-control…)
Well luckily bunny poo is dry (the gooey stuff is what they eat right out of their bums - it contains nutrients they didn’t digest the first time around - sick, I know, but hey).
She’s mine until she dies. (She’s 6.) My best friend is going to Australia for a year in September, then plans on settling in Toronto. ::sigh::
