Taking a break from political news

Lately I feel that political news stresses me out, and that me keeping up with it doesn’t do anyone any good. I’m still going to vote Blue this fall, whether I watch the news or not. I’m planning a one month break from political news as soon as Biden names his VP. Do any of you find yourselves feeling the same way?

I thought this would go best in the politics forum, but feel free to move to MPSIMS if it goes better there.

No, I’m a political junkie and always want to know what’s going on, but just how much I want to sip from the news firehose certainly changes from day to day.

Normally I am as well, but the stakes this year are a lot higher than any other election I can remember in my lifetime. Seeing Trump’s approval on 538 tick up towards 42% from the 40.5% he had been at is what triggered my anxiety.

I usually go news-free for a good 2 months AFTER an election.

But this year it’d be a great idea to start right after Biden names his VP.

Just stay drunk the rest of the year until Nov 3. Set a notification for 7:45pm PT. Or if you want to tease yourself, any time after noon PT; if it’s in the bag one way or the other, the pundit channel anchors will start dropping hints.

Political news tends to stress me out as well, but I also recognize the stories of the day tend to be highly repetitive and almost none of them require any direct action on my part. On the TV (i.e. superficial) side of things, about 20 minutes of any of the MSNBC evening shows does me fine. Otherwise, I prefer to read my news old school rather than have it read to me.

Re: the Presidential race, isn’t one’s choice this year just about the easiest it could ever be? I’ve known since 2016 that Trump should never have gotten a first term, much less a second. I’ll vote my vote and that’s that, but I’m in Texas and if some yahoo in Wisconsin still thinks Trump is the original Jesus, there’s not much I can do about that.

It’s not too late to move to Wisconsin and register to vote there!

While when Trumps appearance or voice makes me want to lose my lunch, we have a couple of real big things going on. His attack on the post office, and trying to stop mail in voting. I live in a state that has mail in voting for years. I need to keep my eye on this.

My Wife and I will talk a bit about work, and then play cards or chess in the evenings. Just a bit different life now. Not sure who hates Trump the most.

I track my time on Twitter, I’ve got too many other things I want to do and Twitter is a time suck
