Just Enuf For the City - Stevie Wonder
Okay, this has been bugging me for years:
What’s the song that has the long speech from
“The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly” in it (where
they list all of Tuco’s crimes and sentence
him to “hang from the neck until dead”). I think
it’s a song from the '80’s, but I could be wrong.
And just so this post is not a complete hijack:
I always thought the “Famous Ashtray” was what
one of the Beach Boys was clanking away with
during the song (using it as a percussion instrument,
I mean).

There was a song called “19” in 1985 that consisted of a radio news-announcer-type voice discussing combat statistics in Vietnam, set to a beat. (The song’s title came from the fact that the average age of a combat soldier in Vietnam was 19.) I enjoyed the song, but I don’t remember who performed it.
I heard a song called (I believe) “I Wanna Know What You’re Thinking” yesterday on the radio. It was from the early-to-mid 80s, as well. It has Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock, from Star Trek) saying “Pure energy” in several places. Dunno why.
Denis Leary - “Asshole”
Dang, you guys are bringing back memories of the good 80s stuff:
Sauron, the song is ‘What’s On Your Mind’ by Information Society - 1988 [I remember that song from many a dance club in the early 90s]
markle9 - Sounds like a Big Audio Dynamite song, probably from Megatop Phoenix, but as for which song…right now I’m suffering from what Cecil calls “tip of the tongue phenomenon.”
Both songs do, however, keep the music/beat playing during the sound-bite, which wasn’t really the OP, but hey, so be it.
I’ve got one earlier than anybody:
Judy Garland singing You Made Me Love You, also known as Dear Mr. Gable because she starts yammering on about her love for the movie star mid-song. IIRC, this version was a big hit single.
Other songs:
Peggy Lee’s Is That All There Is
Elvis’ Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Garland & Bing Crosby singing Yah-Ta-Ta, Yah-Ta-Ta
Crosby & Louis Armstrong singing Gone Fishin’
The Monkees’ Here Comes Tomorrow (very briefly–only 8 words spoken)
Louis Jordan’s Beware Brother Beware is more talking (or yelling) than singing.
Talking Heads’ Seen and Not Seen is all talking.
