With summers end fast approaching, I have been wanting to bring a little nature indoors so that my winter is a bit greener. I want some tall plants for my bedroom that grow easily indoors. I have a southern facing window and have no bright lights in my room.
I don’t necessarily have to grow them from seeds, but that would be fun. Of course they would have to be fast growing if I were to have them in time for winter. The taller, the better. I would love to have a tree in my room. Suggestions?
Pothos ivygrows easily. To obtain some, go into any sad little office building and wander around until you find some sad mid-level drone cubicle farm, and chances are, someone will have a pot of pothos on their desk. (I have some on mine, to mark my drone status.) You can probably score some spider plant babies under those conditions as well.
Most seedlings do very poorly in indoor light, even if the subsequent mature plant can tolerate shady conditions. Dunno, maybe most of the common indoor houseplants aren’t started from seed?
(BTW - where are you that you’re lamenting the fast-approaching end of summer? It’s, literally, 103 F outside right now as I type. Around here, we look forward to the end of summer so we can grow stuff again! Summer is considered a dormant season here by the smarter gardeners.)
Anyone here ever grown a hosta as a houseplant? They like shade, and they breed them in some very dwarfforms now. Dunno how they’d do indoors, though.
