Don’t think I personally have much more I care to add to this thread - but wanted to note that I started this off in IMHO rather than the Pit.

I was going to mention that - but it doesn’t change the fact that the OP becoming a target in a thread is not uncommon once it hits the Pit, nor is it reasonable to call doing so “threadshitting”.

And despite your linguistic gymnastics to avoid calling out Shodan by name (despite having linked directly to his thread and referring to him several times and later calling him a jerk), you should have known exactly where this was headed the moment you hit “submit”.

What is it that you want me to admit? That Shodan believes I want black women to be raped by white men, but he didn’t necessarily mean I want to be raped?

Let’s see, I can concede this, no problem. But the curious thing is that it matters not one whit. The last time I checked, I am black, and so is my mother, my sisters, my cousins, and a lot of my friends. So if you’re trying to sell me on the notion that its substantially better that he thinks I’m a-hankering for a whole bunch of other black women to be raped, but not myself, in order to win some lameass argument about the credibility of a rape allegation…well, you just might want to take that trash somewhere else.

He agreed with the guy who did say it, and that’s enough for me.

That’s fine. And I appreciate your concession, and I’ll offer my own apology for doubting you’d do it.

Perhaps, since it’s equally offensive to you, you figured it was not really relevant to parse out the details. But although you may not see much qualitative difference between “Shodan said this…” and “Shodan said everyone was beginning to agree with something someone else said…” I think there’s enough of a difference that clarifying it is crucial.

If anyone else had used the phrase, I don’t think it would have even registered with me. The fact that it was uttered by the same guy who said Obama was going to turn the “White House beige”, a comment which he was asked to clarify multiple times to no avail, does strike me as a bit off.

On the balance, I’m inclined to continue ignoring it–regardless of politics, the important thing in that thread was a doper’s child home safe from a war zone.

Let’s just start out with the fact I’ve posted in the Pit probably less than 5 times, but I did post in the original thread, so bear with me.

Like Zeriel said, what’s MOST important is that Shodan’s son made it home safe. PERIOD. Frankly, tacoloco is a bit crass, but also correct - you don’t bring shit to a thread on someone’s family member coming home from a war zone. Even if Shodan is racist as it appears (and reading over the thread, it appears he is at least mildly racist) in the thread, “if you don’t have nothing nice to say, don’t say nothin’ at all” applies to the thread. Sorry Dinsdale, I’m a fan of yours but you were in the wrong here.

Shodan, I truly am glad that your son is safe. I hope he will be when he goes back. My brother will be entering the SEALS sometime next summer, so I hope you keep him in your thoughts as well.
