For two years now, the Ehrfurths have been enduring an annoying, persistent noise in their home — a low, motor-like rumble accompanied by a vibration. They can’t figure out what’s causing it, and it’s been a challenge getting others to believe them because the problem starts and stops.

They’ve lived in the house at 2048 Mary Queen Road for 42 years, and it’s only been the last two years that it’s been a problem.

“It’s like there’s a semi parked right outside with the engine running, but when you look out, there isn’t one,” said Leona Ehrfurth, 76.

t is demonic activity, many will think I am crazy, but it seems to fit your story quite well. Demons are angels, they know what’s going on in the world. They are known for mimicing humans, they have many abilities, such as creating noises audible to only certain people. My guess is that the demons were trapped into your neighbor’s attic that was redone, then moved to your house. Solution? Call a local bible beliving church and ask the pastor to come and pray over your house.

This has happened in many places. I say check for sound transmitted by the water pipes. I know I can have ear hurting noise from putting the hose in a watering can when I use a certain end. The can amplifies the vibrations remarkably well. The vibrations from many places can enter the home through the water pipes. These people hear the noise in the home and not outside it.

One of my favorite podcasts, Skeptoid, did a show about these “mystery hums” that’s interesting. (Link is to the transcript, not directly to audio.) Basically, there are all sorts of different causes for it, without any evidence for one single unifying cause.
