I especially like the way Mothchunks’ copy included an anti-gay element that was missing in the original posted on Snopes and about.com.
Mothchuncks: “We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education.”
The others: “We only donate to the areas of arts, social actions and education.”
I hope Mr. Mothman goes back and tells the idiot who sent him THIS email that it’s bullshit.
My father-in-law, the nuclear medicine guy, the well-educated, well-paid, well-read guy with good judgment, just sent me the one about Microsoft and AOL giving money for every fifth email or whatever. SIGH. And he got it from some of his well-educated friends.
Incidentally, Target can do whatever the fuck it wants. I go in there and I see all the “thank you” letters for their donations and their commendations, and read about their profit-sharing policy, and feel entirely comfortable with their right to say they don’t want to give money to old ladies, nuns, legless puppies, veterans, or big-titted Ukrainian waitresses. What, a corporation must be held hostage to every request? And I’m especially galled if some bullshit misunderstanding and ill-informed smear campaign is now compelling Target to divert some of its charitable donations to a different cause just to show a bunch of rumor-addled, knee-jerking morons that it’s a good company.
