Target snubs Vets

"We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that
“veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education.”

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for a memorial remembrance.

As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or Veterans in general do not meet their area of giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores?

Sincerely,
Veterans Helping Veterans

PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for “Toys For Tots” during the holidays."

Screw you, Target.

Do they have some kind of anti-military bias, is that maybe it?

Mmm not quite?

Yeah, that’s pretty inexplicable. Even the Toys for Tots?

Snopes covered this one, although I can’t seem to link directly to individual entries. It’s under the icon named “Inboxer Rebellion” (third row down, third from the left) under “Boycotts.” The story is true in its basics, but with a hefty load of spin.

The VFW is debunking this story at their site: http://www.vfw.org/news/target.htm

That page also includes a link to a response from Target about the precipitating incident, which arose from a misunderstanding.

Before we jump all over Target let’s read the whole story located here.

The hamster love me more than you guys. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s what Snopes says:

The hamster apparently hates me.

It’s called charity because it’s voluntary. Corporations, like individuals, have a limited budget for charity. They choose a charity other than you. That doesn’t mean that they dislike veterans, it’s just not the issue that they focus on.

Go ahead and vote with your dollars, that’s the beauty of capitalism.

Miller, to link to individual Snopes stories you have to Copy and Paste the URL from the bottom of the story–it’ll say, “The URL for this story is such-and-such”.

Is it really to much to ask that a poster do just a modicum of intelligent research before lambasting somebody in the pit? Is that too heavy a burden to place on somebody? And thanks to all the dopers who posted before me about the truth of the matter. Except Captain Amazing. The hampsters hate him.

Mothchunks, did you recieve this tidbit via e-mail? If you did, could you please respond to everyone it was sent to with the debunking information listed above? Ignorance is one thing, but slander is another. Some jerk had a grudge and he turned it into spam mail against a corporation that actually does donate a sh*tload of money to charaties.

The hamsters ate Captain Amazing!?!?!

Oh, oops. misread that. carry on.

oops, whoosh.

Wait just a minute–your OP is just a cut-and-paste of some bit of glurge you found somewhere? And it isn’t even true?

Bad form. Very bad form.

I don’t get it. Mothchunks, did you make the request to Target or did you C&P an e-mail?

Nah, not really. Your first post was still pretty spot-on, regardless of the accuracy of the OP.

Or click on “No Frames,” and the URL address appears in the address line. Nice of the Snopes people to allow us two ways of getting the URL.

Amazing, too, how fast us Dopers identify an Urban Legend. I was thinking “Snopes” even before I opened the thread.
