Tarot Readings

A thread like this wouldn’t be complete without a couple links like these from REALL (which should especially be read by rasta, who should definitely join) :

The Tarot Scam, written by our ex-Vice Chairman, about how he scammed free beer from people in college bars by doing tarot readings.

Confessions of a Tarot Card Reader.

And why even bother with those antiquated “dead trees” tarot decks anyway? Technology improves everything! GAZE! upon the wonder that is Taboo: The Sixth Sense.

Kricket: Will you read me? Or do I need to be there?

Many years ago, a friend of my husband’s, a voodoo lady(she was Creole) read for me.
She said I’d be not working by October and pregnant. And would have a boy.
She was right!

Of course, a year and a half later, she read me again and was completely off.

My friend uses the Dragon Tarot deck, and she’s given pretty accurate readings to me and people she doesn’t know but I have good accquaintance with. [Did that just make sense? Eh, I’ll leave it in anyway.] Part of it is finding a deck in which you see the meanings behind the images applied to the people most clearly, and part of it is a lot of practice in reading the nature of people.
**PAST:**The World The encouraging aspects of your situation at the moment have been brought about by a successful, natural conclusion to some phase of your life, or an important move or journey. You have been rewarded for past efforts and blessed with good fortune. More difficult aspects are likely to be the result of a sense of stagnation or an inability to accept change. You may have lacked the vision required to make the most of the opportunities available to you.
I’ve been through a lot this year, and I might be able to go somewhere where I can escape the thoughts that haunt me in the presence of everything around me. I’m a bit burned out and it’s harder to cope with things and make decisions, but I’m working on getting back to the way things should be. At least my ambition is coming back slowly but surely.
**PRESENT:**Strength You have the strength and courage to overcome any difficulties you face at the moment. Now is the time to act with confidence and integrity, as the opportunity to achieve your goals is here. You will succeed as long as you are willing to put in the effort. This card may also indicate recovery after a period of illness or weakness.
*Yeah, I can deal with things and I’m more assured of myself, but my ability to put forth the effort depends on my mental ability to deal with all the crap I’m still dealing with.
**FUTURE:**Temperance You are entering a period of peace and calm. Plans will come to fruition, and you will be blessed with a harmonious combination of circumstances. Even if you must be frugal, this need not be a hardship: you must realize that pacing yourself and avoiding excess will be the right things to do.
*Well, that’s something that I needed a long time ago, but better late than never. What plans? Everything is still up in the air as usual. Heh, I haven’t spent money like it was easy to come by for a while, and I don’t think I will after that. *
When it comes down to what they say, it’s how you apply the thought to what’s going on in your life at present. They could be right, and they could be wrong; it’s just how you interpret what they say. All tarot is meant to be is a bit of a map, pointing out different directions and possibilities.

There is $1,000,000 waiting for you! (Just contact the Randi Foundation).
There was a tragedy recently in Nepal. Apparently the heir to the throne shot his parents, plus some bystanders, then shot himself.
The Royal Astrologer didn’t see it coming. Perhaps it didn’t count as a significant event.

vanilla asked:

You can’t read blank pages. {rimshot}

glee said:

That’s the way it always is. Nobody predicted that Princess Di would die in a horrible car crash. Nobody predicted that JFK Jr. would fly his plane underwater. Etc.

Oh, but they can predict that you’re a creative person who sometimes feels like not everybody understands you. Yadda yadda yadda…

Glee my love with your naughty accent and all, did you read my whole post? Money cheapens it. I am a Wiccan, tarot read, and a mother of five, not a show pony.
And your punishment for not paying attention to my whole post will be that you must whisper naughty words in my ear.
The last time I got into a discussion about ghosts Davey-boy up there directed me to a guy that would pay for a real picture. Which BTW I have finally scanned and will e-mail to those who wanted it months ago. (yeah, I am so slow with that stuff)

Vanilla I will read for you if you would like but I have never done it before without the person here. Could be a fun treat. I can give it a whirl e-mail me.
I have been working with dreams via e-mail lately.

For me, Tarot readings are fun; a parlor game. For us silly pajama-party lovin’ girls, Tarot readings rank right up there with Ouija and “Lift”. A little exotic, maybe a bit scary by candlelight, but ultimately just fun.

David B: okay, good one.

If money cheapens it, you can get free online tarot readings from : http://www.webpresspro.com/tarot/ & other web sites.

We have a lady doing them locally once a week. I never see anyone in the room with her though. I wonder if she did her cards & they said ‘you won’t get any customers tonight?’

I sat down for a tarot reading on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. I was quite disappointed by the guy. Didn’t put on much of a show at all. So I paid him for a second reading, and his analysis of that cards was that I was disappointed about something.

Way to go.

Of course I read your whole post - it was interesting.
But you did say you needed money for rent and utilities.
The Randi award would free you of the mundane constraint of earning a living.

If you can genuinely perform a pyschic ability, you’re not a ‘show pony’ - you have a talent.

My view as a scientist is that lots of people say they can do psychic things, usually if they are paid. I would like to see a scientific test of their claim (and the award is a real challenge - why don’t psychics want $1,000,000?).

You certainly have a naughty talent for flirting

glee, don’t forget – if those people honestly feel that taking poor Randi’s million dollars would “cheapen” their talents, they could always donate it to a worthy charity. I’m sure there are plenty of hungry people who could use a few bucks.

Here, David B,
Is your card, the drowned Phoenician Sailor,
(Those are pearls that were his eyes. Look!)
Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card,
Which is blank, is something he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself:
One must be so careful these days.

…I know I’ve pulled this stunt once before, I’m sorry, but I can’t resist. DAMN, I love that poem.

Also, AFAIK, there is no requirement that the claimants accept the million dollars.

Be unamazed. Regret your misspent money.

I see from your profile that you are a Mechanical Engineering student. If you want to have any hope of success in that profession you will need to drastically improve your analytical skills.

Do you guys really have to poo-poo everything someone finds entertaining?
Seriously guys, can’t someone get some enjoyment out of something even if it can be a bit silly?
I don’t take my readings as the Gods gospel, but I do admit to being pretty accurate about things.
And Glee, just wait, it gets better.

I am a tarot reader, and a quite good one if I do say so myself. My lodge says the cards indicate I absolutely don’t believe in metaphysical bunk like tarot, which is probably why I’m so good at it, I’m a disinterested observer.
I always start a card reading with a “cold reading” with the cards face down, using the techniques as described in an article by James Randi. I do this to alert people to disregard anything that comes from cold reading techniques, even stuff I say. Then I do the reading. It’s amazing how effective this is at clearing your own channels of fakery. However, I am concerned that this also is an inadvertent trick, it convinces people that you really are telling the truth.
But anyway, a real card expert doesn’t even need tarot cards, a deck of 52 playing cards is sufficient. But that technique takes way too long to do, so people usually get the lame “celtic cross” quickie reading instead.
I vividly remember one person who I read for, and one of the reasons I rarely do readings for anyone. This skeptic didn’t believe in tarot. I laid out the cards after he shuffled, and read the cards. He challenged me that the cards were random and any reading was strictly random. So I told him to shuffle again, and when I laid out the cards, over half the cards came up in the same positions. He accused me of having a trick card deck, so I got another one. He shuffled the cards, he started laying them out (I let him do it this time, to convince him I wasn’t palming cards) and when he laid out the first 4 cards, they were exactly the same as his previous layout. He got up and screamed, ran out of my house, and never ever mentioned tarot to me again.

Silly is Chinese fire drills, charades, and bump cars. I “learned” to read hands from my nanny, and thought it was pretty much of a lark. Then one day at a carnival my cohort and I had a woman walk in with her hand like shattered safety glass. Suddenly I realized I had no right to be directing other people’s lives, even in fun. (We lied to her and then stopped telling fortunes after that.)
