So apparently the idea that each taste has its own area on the tongue is a myth. So why can I taste some things better on different parts of my tongue?
The other day, I was eating raspberries with a friend. I noticed that, in order to get the full blast of that tingly sour-sweet raspberry taste, I had to roll the berries around on the tip of my tongue. The sides of the tip of my tongue, to be precise. The rest of my mouth, the flavor was muted, little or no tang. What gives?
