Tastes From My Stomach That Just Won't Go Away?

Why is it that the tastes of certain foods never leave my stomach?

Not to get graphic. But it happens with certain foods esp., like fish oil or garlic. I keep bringing up that taste for the rest of the day, it seems. But just today, it happened with raw mushrooms.

I love eating mini Bella mushrooms. They taste just as good raw, maybe even better, than cooked. And they apparently have a lot of Vitamin D in them. (As I said a while ago, my doctor is concerned I am deficient in Vitamin D.) Anyways, I had a couple yesterday. And I still have that taste in my mouth!

What gives? Why would food seem to linger so long, in taste if nothing else?

:):)

I can’t eat peppers, green, red, etc, for this reason. Love the taste! But not for two days!

I’ve always referred to this when asked why I don’t like them, (I do!), as ‘It repeats on me.’

I have no idea what causes that though.

I am going to be really helpful and say that I have never heard of this problem.

For some items of food I can “taste” them again if I belch up to 2-3 hours later (peppers are the worst), but only happens a few times and is gone in seconds.

This sounds about my friend who had the exact above symptoms but also had acid reflux. Turns out he had H Pylori. A simple Urea Breath test (about $30 at a lab) can detect it. H Pylori can have different symptoms in different people.

Stomach emptying is delayed by fatty foods. So, anything eaten with a lot of fat whether the fat is in the specific food or fat was taken in association with it, leads to the stomach staying fuller longer. And that promotes reflux.

What’s most likely to reflux back up? Often liquids, and including many elements of what gives things their specific taste or flavour. It doesn’t take much reflux of a distinct flavour to reproduce the taste in your mouth.

Acid may have nothing to do with it, or for that matter H pylori infection, although ulcer disease could must be considered.

On the other hand, if someone has diabetes (or any of a number of other, rarer disorders), stomach emptying can be impaired and the tendency to reflux greatly enhanced. Multiple classes of medications are available to counter this problem.

These days, EVERYONE’S doctor is concerned they are deficient in vitamin D. A few years ago it was low testosterone (in men).

Actually, The D deficiency fad is coming to an end. The new one is pre-diabetes.
