Tattoo - Bruce Dern, Maude Adams

I watched this movie last night. It holds up well. Definitely one of Bruce Dern’s creeper characters. Former Bond girl (Man With the Golden Gun, Octopussy) Maude Adams is stunning, even covered in Tats.

If you haven’t seen this in awhile, it’s the one with a model that’s abducted, sedated, and tattooed over a few weeks time. A very, very interesting story as the victim finds herself attracted to her attacker.

Anyone feel like discussing?

I always wondered if any copy cat crimes occurred.

It’s a shame they didn’t do a sequel with Maude Adams character. How would she deal with what happened? She was a little psycho herself. Would she start attacking men? Could have been a great movie.

Movie trailer for Tatoo

I saw this when it first came out. Tattooing was much less mainstream than it is now and I remember being horrified and at the same time aroused at the sight of Maude’s finished tat. As I recall it was a bit fake looking but was really an attractive design. I looked a couple years ago to see if it was out on DVD and at the time it wasn’t. I remember liking it story/acting-wise at the time but would need to see it again.

It came out on VHS years ago. Ebay has them once in awhile. I don’t think it was released on DVD. Probably too controversial.

I like it because it’s not the typical slasher/victim. The Maude Adams character has her own kinky issues and is more than a match for Bruce Dern.

Gosh, thanks for the head’s up on this. It sounds like an intriguing story. I’ll have to see if I can find a video copy somewhere.

I forgot that this movie wasn’t out on dvd. Most of the members under 30 probably never got to see it. The vhs is rare but often found on ebay.

I suspect the thread will fizzle out soon because the movie isn’t that well known. :frowning:

wasnt there a japanese movie about a woman getting tattooed? I vaguely seem to remember seeing it on cable really late one night.

As an aside, I seem to recall that there was some controversy: Bruce Dern, IIRC, said that the two of them had sex on the screen, and Maude said that they didn’t.

I never saw the movie, but I remember this controversy well.

Shortly afterward, Jim Stafford was on “Tonight” with Johnny Carson, and speculated that there were only four possibilities:

  1. They did have sex, and she was lying.
  2. They didn’t have sex, and he was lying.
  3. He did, but she didn’t.
  4. He did, but she didn’t even notice.

I remember this movie back from the 80’s when we first got cable at the house, and as a young pubescent boy, it offered me one of my first opportunities to see boobies. A naked Maud Adams was the subject of many fantasies back in the day.

I remember seeing this movie because they had it on base when I was in the military. It was bad but not bad enough to leave mid-film.
