At my workplace employees can’t have any visible tattoos. Ones hidden by clothing are fine.
I have two myself. Japanese characters on my right bicep for “Knowledge” and “teaching.” I firmly believe that, every day, you can learn something you didn’t know, and teach someone else something they didn’t know. My lefft bicep has an-almost tribal design, with the EMS Star of Life in the middle of it. I’ve been an EMT for the last 4 years.
My wife has two, one on each shoulder. One’s an umbrella, and the other is Stewie Griffin.
All that said, some of the best advice my father ever gave me was, “never get a tattoo anywhere where a judge can see it.”
ETA: I didn’t realize until after I posted that this thread was several months old. I followed a link to it. Sorry about that.
There’s no nice way to say this - you’re an idiot.
I have four, but they’re all hidden when in business attire.
Why? Because: a) I like tattoos, b) I have spent years in the corporate world, latterly at the upper edge of middle management, where their visibility is not conducive to progression within an organization.
They’re primarily for me, to mark certain significant things in my life. I like to know they’re there. When I’m in a suit they’re not visible, but if I’m in my ‘real’ life, on the beach or wearing a tank top, they are. I think I have the best of both worlds.
Well, I could see getting a tattoo that only the precious few people who get to see me naked could enjoy. Makes it special, you know ? It’s like sharing a secret. Silly, but kinda romantic. Or is that a pleonasm ?
But mostly, I would only consider getting ink less as art and body beautification (because my body and I enjoy a healthy, reciprocal “fuck you, asshole” relationship) and more as reminders for myself or conveyors of significance. Most people, I don’t want to convey anything to. That stuff’d be for me, and I would have no interest in either explaining what they’d mean to Joe Random trying to make small talk, or lying about same.
ETA: Besides, **Clothie **? You have issues, dude. Also consider your mancard revoked for blatant dereliction of duty.
You know better than to indulge in personal insults outside the Pit. Don’t do this again.

So you would only hump her in clothes?
My solitary tattoo is on my inside ankle, and upside down so it only makes sense to me, anyway.
'cause it’s for me!
It shows under nylons, and so far the only person to comment was my mom, 'cause she thought I had a piece of lint stuck there.
-related to the post above regarding turn-offs: My dad felt the need to tell me a few years ago about dating a lady with a tramp stamp, and how he just couldn’t understand it. What I can’t understand is why my otherwise quite courtly, low-key and almost prudish dad would give me that visual. :smack:
Okay let me modify it to “that’s an idiotic thing to do”. You know I’m not trying to actually insult the guy, but that behaviour is insane to me.
As I understood the OP, etv78 was talking about getting a tattoo on your body that you can’t see.
It absolutely makes sense for the majority of people to put tattoos where they can be selectively displayed. Mine, for example, is on my forearm. Hidden by a long-sleeved shirt and revealed by rolling up the sleeves.
What I don’t get is tattoos in places like the back of the neck. My son got one of these. It’s terribly clever, but I want to be able to look at my tattoo. I like it. I enjoy seeing it. He can’t see his, even in a mirror. Obviously, he can with two mirrors, but what (male) college student has two mirrors?
My father once asked me if I’d ever tried anal sex. When I said that I (at that time) hadn’t, he replied, “well, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once.”
Which means I have the visual of my father cornholing my mother or stepmother.
I read your post before I glanced at your username to parse your gender. I thought you were his daughter, which makes it elebenty times [del]funnier[/del]worse!

Yeah, I’m all on this one. I don’t really understand back tattoos, either. If your tattoo is meaningful to you, why put it somewhere you can never see?
But that’s just my opinion.
I used to date a woman who had a small butterfly-on her ass.
It was only visible when she wore a bikini.
I was fine with that.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. I don’t care where other people put their tattoos. I’m just saying that I don’t want to get one somewhere that I can’t see it.

Your 2nd paragraph is EXACTLY what I meant.
That’s a *severe *tattoophobia! When I’m that situation, most considerations get thrown to the wind. I could probably find a live spider in her pubes and still not care.
I have a tat over my heart.
Currently, I own a couple of blouses, one swimsuit and a couple of negligees that allow it to be seen. The rest of the time, unless you see me naked, you don’t realize it’s there.
I’m of the generation of women (48 y.o) who, if we’re tattooed at all, are either all out biker chick or have the neat, sweet, petite and discreet variety. We tended to come into the career field when tats were looked down upon as totally unprofessional, so if it was important to us to advance, we didn’t display them. Besides, I kind of like being able to be selective in who gets a peek.
I think that it would be fun to have one that would be visible when wearing a tank-top or something like that… but I also think that it would be sexy to have one or two that only you and a lover could see. For my 50th b-day I want a cool design of a scooter on my right shoulder blade which will cover this tiny little tattoo that I got when I was 15, but I want another one somewhere else, that will not be visible when dressed.
My primary reason for getting tattoos that couldn’t be seen, originally, was that my job doesn’t allow visible tattoos. Until recently, all of my tattoos (19 individual tats of various sizes) could easily be hidden when I was wearing a short sleeved work uniform. Most of them could be seen in a tank top and shorts, however.
A couple months ago, I decided to give in to my desires and start a sleeve. Since I was going to do that anyway, I got a tulip on my right forearm. After that, I started a four seasons-themed full sleeve on my left arm. Now, I still wear short sleeves, but I cover my tats with special sleeves to appease the bosses because they’re cooler than my long sleeve uniform shirts.
