Taxi Quesion - Will this work?

A friend and his wife (both young 70 year olds) will be in Chicago next month for the first time. One evening they’re going to a Cubs game. If I have them take a taxi from the north Michigan Ave area to Halsted & Webster, will they have any trouble getting another taxi to Wrigley from that corner/area? And after the game, will they find a taxi on Addison to take them back to their hotel? I know the CTA wouldn’t be difficult, but they’ve never been to Chicago.

Halsted at Webster is a fairly busy commercial strip, with quite a few bars and restaurants, and getting a cab there in the early evening shouldn’t be difficult. To improve their chances, your friends may wish to walk a quarter-mile north to the six corner intersection of Halsted, Fullerton, and Lincoln, where three busy commercial streets cross. They should see lots of cabs there, and if all else fails they can walk a block and a half west of the Fullerton station on the Red Line, where they can catch a train two stops north to Addison at Wrigley Field.

Thanks. What about a taxi at Wrigley after the game?

There are taxis pretty much everywhere in this city. There are going to be zillions of them going up and down Clark after a Cubs game, so there should be no problems.

I’m not clear on why they can’t just take the Red Line, though. Especially if they’re coming from somewhere on Michigan near the Loop; it’d be only a block west, on State. It would be cheaper, and given traffic, almost certainly quicker.

Thanks. W/regard to the Red Line option, they’re an older couple, never been to Chicago and they’re staying at a hotel on Columbus Drive. If it was a day game I’d certainly offer that option. Thanks again.

A true Chicago baseball fan would never condone this practice, but your friends might want to leave the game a little early for a better chance of finding an empty cab. Once the game is over Clark and Addison is a mob scene.

In a pinch, have them carry a cell phone with the phone number of one of the local cab companies. They are pretty responsive.

Ever been to New Orleans?? Clark Street near Addison after a Cubs game is a lot like Bourbon Street, but with slightly less stench.
