Taylor Hawkins Dead at 50

“Drug binge” is way over the top speculation and accusation at this point. Jeezus.
Here he is greeing a little drummer girl fan outside the hotel. I guess the shows were cancelled due to flooding, so this girl set up her drums outside the band’s hotel hoping to catch his attention, which she did:

I know, I know.

Lets not forget, both Prince and Tom Petty died due to an [accidental] overdose on opioids. In both cases, so far as I remember, they didn’t go on a ‘drug binge’, they were dealing with chronic pain and on a lot of meds. I don’t remember if it was one or both, but I remember hearing, at least for one of them, that they had multiple fentanyl patches on which can happen when you’re in so much pain you put one on, forgetting you already have another one going.
That could very well be the case for Taylor as well. Some weed and antidepressents aren’t much to worry about. Amphetamines could be something along the lines of adderall. Benzos for anxiety or even so he could get a decent night’s sleep while touring. Painkillers for, well, pain.

Now, that’s not to say these weren’t all street drugs and he took them all that night and maybe the opioids were from fentanyl laced, counterfeit percocets. But maybe we just wait for an official statement.

FWIW, even if it was a ‘drug binge’, even if it was on purpose, he was still a helluva drummer and that’s how most people are going to remember him.

Its in the article. Multiple sources say the same thing. 10 substances sounds like a binge to me. I’m no doctor but most medicines carry warnings about mixing with other drugs.

I feel bad for Taylor and his family.

List the 10 then, if you’d be so kind.

Do you have a cite for that.

I could smoke weed a few times a week with friends. I could be on prescription adderall for ADHD and benzos for anxiety. I could have percocet for my tooth that I need to get fixed but my appointment isn’t until next week.
4 drugs, no binge.
Wait, anti-depressents, 5 drugs, still not a binge.

Don’t assume every musician lives the same lifestyle as the public image of 80’s hair bands would have you believe.

Then maybe don’t spread rumors.

It’s right there in the article. 10

ABC cals them psychoactive substances. Thats two cites I linked. It’s the mixture of drugs that’s dangerous.

Here, I’ll help you out.

2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

8.
9.
10.
If you could fill that in, that would be great.

They’re also counting things like anti depressants. Not sure that counts as part of a ‘drug binge’.

I’d like you to list them, Mr. Binge accuser, thank you very much.
Or admit that you’re speculating, and accusing. And possibly blaming.

Here’s the thing. If you tell me a rock star died of a drug overdose, I think “found dead on the bathroom floor in his motel room,” as opposed to, “a doctor was called to respond to chest pains.”

Tom Petty, Prince and Michael Jackson all died of drug overdoses. What’s your point?

However is the manner of my passing, may my last public act be one of kindness.

I commented based on toxicology reports. The 10 individual drugs haven’t been reported and probably won’t be.

If you prefer to believe Taylor wasn’t indulging that’s fine with me.

The guy is dead. RIP Taylor.

Oh, I thought you accused him of bingeing? Now it’s indulging? Whatever.
Rest In Peace? Not if you and your accusations can help it.

That’s the thing. We’re preferring to wait and see instead of making accusations.

And yet you seem pretty confident with your answers.

I’m only confident because of the reporting.

No one is claiming a OD like 2001. Mixing various drugs is a known danger. Add in a enlarged heart and a tragedy was waiting to happen.

Perhaps binge was too strong of a word. There are unproven reports of a opened bottle of vodka and cocaine like powder in the room. It’ll be interesting if that’s eventually proven or disproven by toxicology.

You…you’re the one claiming he OD’d.

I’ve said repeatedly it was from a mixture of 10 drugs. Alcohol and opiates is an incredibly dangerous combination. My doctor has warned me repeatedly to never drink when I’m on Tramadol for pain. I’m not even allowed one beer. Would it kill me? Probably not, but its a risk factor.

No one has said or even implied Taylor had gone back to the hard core stuff that nearly killed him in 2001.

Alcohol hasn’t been proven but allegedly there was vodka in Taylor’s room.

They may call it a heart attack. Spare the family any additional pain. I’m good with that. It doesn’t serve any purpose to hurt his family.

Don’t hurt his family. Just call it a drug binge and go about your day. You are something else.

I’m not talking to his family or a major News publication. What is said here is no different than a conversation with friends at a restaurant.

A lot of people are talking about this tragedy and comparing it to other musician’s deaths. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I waited until the toxicology was reported before saying anything.
