Anyone on this board played the Taylor T5 electric? Does it live up to the hype? Revolutionary? Worth the $2k?
Sorry - I haven’t - shoot, I haven’t even heard of it! I will check it out…
Oh - THAT guitar. Haven’t played it, but am sure it is great for what it is - I own 2 Taylors (a high-end regular acoustic and a Baby).
Bottom line with any “it does Acoustic AND Electric” guitars? They are typically Swiss Army knives - versatile, and useful but not able to do any one thing as well as a guitar dedicated to doing one thing.
Many on-stage performers and session players need to be able to “dial-in” certain tones super-fast and easy - the performer because he is on stage (think Page and his twin-neck Gibson) and the session player because he never wants to be turned down for a session because he doesn’t have the right gear.
What is key is that your average player - even your average gigging player - RARELY, if ever, needs that level of versatility. Sure, Pagey has a twin-neck guitar - does your average, 2-or-3 guitar-owning player need one? Nah.
I can see where it is probably super well-made - it’s a Taylor - but while it may look like the sexy next big thing, I don’t see it becoming your average player’s main guitar…
Thanks for the feedback WordMan. Still curious if anyone has played it, whether their experience matches the hype.
Of course, if anyone could do it, it’d be Taylor. If my house were on fire, I’d save my Cujo before heading for the door. (And the 810 if I had a free hand.)
