Seriously, half this thread is a hijack about how stupid the “could/would/should of” construction is and you immediately dump this turd with the first 5 words of your very next post? This, in addition to the complete lack of effort about every part of the writing in the entire post?
Possibly. Right. Dumbfuck.
He’s got a point, you know. Emergency personnel in NJ have more important things to deal with, like keeping everyone off the beach so the governor’s Labor Day picnic can carry on.
Oh, fucking let it go. If it were me, I’d have (See what I did there? ;)) written “should of” just cause I knew it would piss you off. I do sometimes anyway, in an effort to be casual… I don’t give a shit if you or anyone else complains. Lighten up, Francis. Damn pedants and prescriptivists.
See, as a general descriptivist, I think we could just avoid the argument by writing “should’ve,” which has the same pronunciation and everything, with the advantage of being completely unobjectionable to the prescriptivists. I admit, the “should of” thing does irk me a bit, but it’s a common error based on the fact that “should’ve” sounds identical to “should of” (at least in my dialect it does.) That’s why I generally call it an error of orthography, though it also ends up being a grammar error when written out that way. Spoken, there’s no error of grammar, so it’s primarily a spoken-to-written word type of error.
And sometimes people know better, but use “should of” ironically for effect. I’m not saying this is niteshadea’s case. I believe he has shared on these boards that he has a learning disability. But people need to come down from their high horses.
Yes, it’s something I’ve learned to accept and not bother pointing out. I see it all the time even with my smartest friends. I sometimes feel I’m the only person left who spells it with the 've. But, in the end, it’s a minor spelling (cum grammar) error. Even I fuck up “it’s” and “its” sometimes, even though I damn well know which is which.
I blame my phone.
Sometimes it has its own ideas about what I intend to say.
You are a special kind of idiot, you know that? Special. No fire trucks rolled. No emergency vehicles scrambled. No cops suddenly went balls-out to the school. Nada. Classes were disrupted for less than 20 minutes. Much less if the school was built or refurbished since 2000. Nobody rolls on a school fire alarm unless the administration calls them. SOP is to dispatch a custodian or security officer to the pulled alarm location. If no conflagration is seen, the alarm is cancelled and everybody goes back to class. The fire department doesn’t even notice.
So shut the fuck up and go pound sand, you waste of resources.
its/it’s
your/you’re
there/their/they’re
I’ll notice these, but they don’t bother me much. But could/would/should of is like a spark to really dry kindling. I don’t care one’s reason for using it. Once it is there, the entire post is dead.

It seems that New Jersey law frowns on people who pull fire alarms.
Section 2C:33-3
False public alarms.
a. Except as provided in subsection b. or c. of this section, a person is guilty of a crime of the third degree if he initiates or circulates a report or warning of an impending fire, explosion, bombing, crime, catastrophe or emergency knowing that the report or warning is false or baseless and that it is likely to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly, or facility of public transport, or to cause public inconvenience or alarm. A person is guilty of a crime of the third degree if he knowingly causes such false alarm to be transmitted to or within any organization, official or volunteer, for dealing with emergencies involving danger to life or property.

*…This comment prompted three students to immediately walk out of the classroom.
…The protest began with about 15 students outside the high school in between third and fourth periods, but soon after, students began to pour out of the school.
…About an hour-and-a-half into the protest, the school’s fire alarm was triggered and the entire building was evacuated.*

You’ve proven that haters gotta hate. I guess it gives you something to do.
Did you describe the SOP for California or New Jersey?
Show me the reports of all the Emergency Services vehicles that were dispatched to the school or shut the fuck up.
Can I shorten this for you?
It won’t work, but it makes me feel better.
You misspelled and…
No need to get unhinged over this.
I’d’ven’t.
Well, you could follow New Jersey law which states that False Public Alarm is a felony offense.
Strangely, I think that someone who commits a felony should have a criminal record. A juvenile criminal record which will be expunged once they finish up their 300 hours or so of public service whereby they pay back in labor the services that they STOLE from the community.
As I learned when I taught school and one of my students called 911 instead of his mother when he was in trouble, you can tell emergency services it’s a false alarm from now to St. Swithen’s Day, but they will come out and investigate anyway. They are required to by law.
Law. Do you understand that part?
Assholes love their rules.
