Has Bricker ever succeeded at a “gotcha” thread? He is so spectacularly bad at them.
Dude, lacking creativity is nothing to be ashamed of, but it’s nothing to brag about either.
If I was a student in that class, I would have been all for her taking off her shirt.
Yes. As we all know, being called a Ku Klux Klansman by an authority figure in front of our peers is hilarious.
In what way is this possibly a gotcha?
This board definitely leans liberal and you are one of the resident conservatives with a thick enough skin to hang around.
As such this board is filled with egregious conservative behavior so this seems like a, “But you do it too!” post.
Fair enough.
Of course there is bad behavior by both sides and this is certainly an example for conservatives to crow about. This teacher was wrong.
If I were to pull a page from the conservative playbook I’d pawn this off saying this teacher is really a stealth conservative, an agent provocateur if you will, working to smear the good name of liberals everywhere.
(I do not believe that)
I wanted to get in on the punning action, so went to the wiki article on geometry to look for geometry terms which hadn’t been used. Now that I’ve had to explain them, they just look twice as pathetic compared to the other well crafted ones.
The offences against theology comes from A Confederacy of Dunces, by the way: movie version coming up soon, with Zach Galifinakis.
Oh and since I didn’t quite post an unambiguous condemnation, allow me to do so now. Public school teachers, particularly ones belonging to unions, are reviled enough in the US right now. As an employee of the state, she should know better to sanction someone for expressing a political expression. This will give more ammo to those seeking to defund public schools.
I hope she emerges with a job of some description, if not in teaching (it can’t be fun being unemployed in the US) and with a sense of proportion.
Bullshit.
Capital punishment is wrong, always and everywhere.
Just try building a case that he’s ever posted one.
Go on. Try. You should start by asking him to link to examples of “gotcha” threads that he feels have been successful; see what he has to say about that.
“I have never used the phrase “gotcha!” in any of my thread titles. I offer you the opportunity to pore over each and every one of my several thousand posts and prove otherwise, and if you refuse to do so, that proves that its all about the liberal hypocrisy…”
What the fuck are you guys jabbering about? There is no plausible way this could be a “gotcha”.
“That teacher should be fired!”
“Ha! When a teacher goes after Romney, you liberals are all up in arms, but when a teacher goes after Obama…”
And the way you were dressed, you really were asking for it.
“Gotcha” may be a subtext, but no sentence penned by Bricker in this thread may be taken to imply it.
This thread is pure RO. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. We have lots of RO threads. But there are no policy implications here so far. People exercising poor judgment exist in all political varieties. I suppose this thread is a reminder of that, not that anybody has ever believed otherwise. (My claims are that crazies exist on both sides, but they no longer gain traction on the left. I expect this imbalance to evolve over time: it has in the past.)
I think posters should dial it back a notch on Bricker. Sane conservatives are a scarce resource after all. They should be studied not hunted down.
Longer Philly Inquirer article. Her classmates appear to lack sympathy for the teen. Article is supportive of RO.

Uh oh. Teen wants teacher fired: it would have been politic to say, “The way I was treated was not acceptable in my view.”

Did this take place at the school you send your kids to? Then STFU.
One liberal did one stupid thing. Does this mean that every conservative in the country just scored a point?
That’s certainly not my understanding of a “gotcha.”
When I hear that phrase, I picture a post with some kind of misleading or incomplete information, designed to elict a particular reaction, and then expose hypocrisy or double standards by revealing the hidden information. There’s no hidden surprise here.
What makes this a “gotcha?”
And as to the “But you do it too…”
What are the alternatives? As you readily concede, the board is full of bad-crap-done-by-conservatives posts. I didn’t regard this as a liberal problem, but rather simply an idiot…but let’s say it was a liberal issue. Should I refrain from posting examples of poor liberal behavior? Doesn’t that make the board even more one-sided?
Thanks for missing the point of my post!
I was going to join the general condemnation of the teacher, but that is a strange little story, isn’t it?
Maybe not, but this post might.
Are you seriously suggesting that people on this board ignore a story that combines politics, the first amendment, unions, education, and the opportunity for Righteous Indignation?
Particularly such a strange one?
I don’t really see anything strange about it. Can you point out the “strange” parts?
Was the point of your post a whooshing? If so, then, yes, I missed it. Otherwise, I don’t see how any tone, light or otherwise, can justify the teacher’s comment to the student.
Sorry, I closed the articles.
The comment of the teacher it was a Democratic school
That the other students are mad at the t-shirt student for getting a teacher in trouble
That the teacher - or was it an aide? - tried to write on the shirt
I don’t remember all the details, but the stories were just a little odd.
