Tech companies and China investment - any good experiences?

I’ve worked for two small tech companies with major investors from China. The investors spent a little money up front and made grand promises of future funding. Ultimately, the investors took the technology and stopped answering their phones.

Now I’m working for another company in the same situation. I told the CTO about the other two companies I’d worked for, but he said this was completely different.

Has anyone had good experiences at an American tech company with significant investment from China?

I have a spouse and a lot of friends involved in startup culture. The best investor is one who really knows nothing about the tech you’re working on - they only care about the bottom line and are less likely to tell you how to run your company. A real trap are investors who play dumb to weasel their way into more than the money side of things without putting much up front. Culturally, it’s harder for an entrepreneur to sniff out clues to that from a foreign investor.
