Tech Issue: BackTrack Linux

I need to learn how to install all the stuff that BackTrack Linux uses in Ubuntu 10.10. I would much like to get to starting my life of internet deviancy and and all the fun stuff really smart kids do with with computers.

Is seems you can’t, exactly

That said, you can install the standard Ubuntu versions of Metasploit, nmap etc.

The easiest thing to do would be to run Backtrack LiveCD in a virtual machine on your Ubuntu 10.10 system and have a good play. You could also issue a

dpkg --list

to determine all the packages installed in Backtrack, and then try to install them from the standard Ubuntu repositories on to 10.10. They won’t be quite the same, however, and you will probably run in to permission problems.

Si

Good advice from Si, there. I use VirtualBox for my VMs.

I run Backtrack in a VM, plus a few more VMs for target machines (various versions of Windows, plus vulnerable Linux builds like DVWP, Badstore, Metasploitable, etc).

No real need to install all the tools in Ubuntu, IMO.
