What sort of hardware is needed to run a board of this size? He was mostly curious about the Big Four: bandwidth for the connection, the amount of memory, the amount of disk space, and the CPU speed. Since he’s an alpha geek and I’m definitely not, I may have phrased that wrong, my apologies.

Quick answer (that doesn’t involve any searching on MY part ) is to Search for Jerry the Tech God’s posts here in ATMB for Any Date (that’s JDavis.) I know that every time somebody asks this, he generally shows up with the specs graven into two stone tablets, thunder and lightning, etc.
You need an electronic computing device of some kind (more than an abacus! that’s a common mistake) and some sort of electrical wire that will connect you to this thingie of connected computers called the internet.
jdavis has posted in the past the hardware set-up for the SDMB, but as we all know, it’s insufficient to have satisfactory performance at high volumes for a board of this size. Perhaps you can get some ideas at the vBulletin forums or at their webpage. http://www.vbulletin.com
