For what it’s worth, I don’t think the dude is lying. I believe he has a totally unexceptional job that he only got with a boost from Daddy. I believe he is a low level software drone working for a company I’ve probably heard of. What I do have trouble believing is that he’s PROUD of this life. He brags about it. He’s PROUD to be who he is. To me, that is more implausible than building a chairlift to the top of Mount Everest.
Ignoring, for a moment, that you seem to be a creep, let’s note the math that running coach did.
If you’re paying $1000 per month to live, spending $70k per year on hookers, and still have to pay taxes, then you need $105k per year. But, if you are able to get to that point - which is a fair climb from 80k - then you have zilch for retirement and you’re just going to be living on government rations for the last 40 years of your life.
I would suggest that there are more important things in life than figuring out how to orgasm, let alone spending 83% of your take-home on it. And, particularly, if you can orgasm for free. Left hand or right hand, they both work just fine and they are free. There is no actual thing as blue balls - some magical disease that can only be cured by having sex with another human being. It’s not real. No other human is necessary for you to keep your balls from falling off; it can all be solved in a few minutes with no external aid.
You should pay attention to reality.
I don’t know how old you are, but there was a commercial that became a big joke when I was young, for a product called LifeCall. There would be some elderly person on the ground yelling, “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” The solution, a wearable device that allowed them to call for help.
There’s no real reason for that to be funny, and I don’t believe that it was intended to be funny. But scary things are either scary or funny, and I think a lot of people recognized how scary it would be, to be in that situation. If you’re all alone and no one loves you or cares whether you continue to exist for one more day, and you fall and break your hip in the bathroom, well you’re just going to lie there for hours and maybe days, in pain and helpless. Maybe you’ll be saved, maybe you’ll die, but you’ll certainly regret that you are living the life of someone who is completely unloved.
As you age, every single time you get sick and you have to take care of yourself - buying food, cooking food, whatever else - you’re going to realize that this is all going to become a lot harder as you become elderly. You might not be able to do it. You’ll lie in bed with a fever, getting more sick the weaker you get from lack of food, and that just keeps snowballing until you die and begin to rot.
But a key to having people like you is having empathy. And, I mean, maybe humanity was awful to you. Maybe you were damaged in some way where you no longer give any fucks and, if the hot girl you’re banging for $500 is just reliving her dad raping her every day for years and years and you’re just one more client towards her breaking and killing herself, well that doesn’t really matter because fuck the world and fuck humanity.
Maybe that doesn’t describe you, but you’re clearly fucked up in some way and, victim or plain off asshole from birth be as it may, you need to get over that and get past being a 12 year old.
If you have a hero in life, is your hero someone who saved people or someone who was one step away from robbing a liquor store if he thought it would give him ten minutes banging Taylor Swift? (If the latter, then you should just check yourself into a psychiatric hospital and say that you suffer from massive depression or something.) But, my hope would be that it’s the former. Ann, thank you, because I fully agree with you. I take it a step further, and believe that he knows he’s a cog in whatever machine he’s in, and he’s festering in it. The only satisfaction he gets is to puff his chest out and make himself appear grander than he is, and he has to do this through the Internet; his real world personality and habits hold him back from actually achieving anything. Anecdotal, but I frequently drive Eastern Europeans home from their work at the strip club, and they do not come across as “trafficked”, despite being off the clock and with no “minders” around.
They are, presumably, in the country illegally so they have no particular police protection if a client is abusive with them or forces them to do something that they don’t want. Voluntary or not, it’s not a good profession in terms of mental health nor safety. Nearly all prostitutes, whether they started as runaways who got picked up by a pimp slinging drugs or voluntarily entered the profession, end up with PTSD.
For me, the other issue is that if you’re a young man and you’re starting out in the world, you have to find work that is fundamentally about the work. If you’re a young woman and you’re at least average looking, you can basically rack up some good money so long as you’re willing to take your clothes off and lie down.
In terms of your introduction to the world of adults, I feel like that’s gotta screw up your career trajectory. It’s like the poverty trap where you hit a certain income line and suddenly lose all of the government benefits and you’re worse off than you had been before.
Encountering that sort of situation, when you’re young and your view of the world is being developed, it has to mess with you. Why bother getting a good paying job and working hard? Just find some dude who has some money, spread your legs, and spend the rest of your life playing video games.
It’s basically teaching people to be predators and psychopaths; it’s taking people out of the economy who would, otherwise, have been strong contributors; and it’s convincing a good percentage of our daughters that they’re more valuable as meat with a lubricated entryway than as human beings with a brain and the ability to say “no”.
