This one was a really good episode. I and the wife laughed almost constantly. It’s nice to get back into the pre-game locker rooms and the Zava (a pretty obvious Zlatan stand in) addition will make things even more entertaining.
Could they hit us over the head with any more analogies on why Roy needs to get back with Keely?
This is genius, Apple Music has Ted’s breakup mix.
…the moment where Ted pulls Roy aside and tells him to effectively “pull his head in” was one of my favourite moments of the series. Its the sort of thing that all of the best bosses I ever worked with could do. Ted is the nicest guy in the world. But as a boss, when he tells you to “get your shit together” you listen. It took only a sentence and a look and Roy knew that he fucked up. Then Ted immediately de-escalated.
Ted gave Roy a bit of rope, and when Roy didn’t take the hint, Ted shut it down before the situation grew toxic.
Boss of the year.
That’s a heck of a playlist, I must say; I do have to wonder if Ted would go with the Everly Brothers rendition of “Love Hurts” rather than Nazareth. The Nazareth version is by far the most famous, but Ted seems like the sort of guy who would be a fan of Phil and Don.
Plus, I liked his plot summary of a hallmark Christmas movie.
When Roy’s desk was festooned with sympathy cards and balloons, who sent him the “plenty of fish in the sea” card? Somebody named Lisa?
It was Liza. She was a minor character in Season 2.
I finally got a chance to watch the latest episode, and I really liked it. It felt like one of the best first season episodes, although I’m not sure I can articulate exactly what felt that way about it. Maybe it was just the nice balance - a few more serious scenes with Roy and with Rebecca, but lots of good jokes and lighter bits as well.
In the discussion last season, I think I was on the side of not caring whether they included much of the actual football in the show. But the match and locker room stuff worked really well in this one, so maybe I was wrong about that.
It took me a while to place Katy Wix as the stuffy CFO - I keep expecting her to talk like Mary in Ghosts.
They’ve done a bunch of interviews saying the story they are telling right now is a three part arc, but I don’t think anyone has said this is the last season. They are being pretty coy about what if anything is next.
I think that was the best ep of the series.
I really liked it too. Tartt correcting people was great. They could go a bunch of different ways with the Zava plot, so I’m interested to see how that goes.
I’m also interested to see what they do with Ted’s ex-wife. Her character in the first season was well done, where she wasn’t a villain. I hope they don’t go back on that.
I remember a couple of hints about Colin perhaps not being straight earlier in the show. Like when Keeley first mentioned that she was working with a new company called Bantr, he said something about how the name was like Grindr. And there was another hint but I can’t remember that one.
They REALLY leaned into Zava as Zlatan. That was amusing. Especially the audacious goals.
I like Roy helping out Tartt become a great player. Full circle from S1.
Interesting throwaway line of Nate doing well with West Ham as well.
They certainly laid the groundwork for Ted to leave in this one.
Regarding the game play we saw in this episode (and remembering that I am not a soccer fan), I thought in at least one case, Jamie’s kick would have made it into the goal even without Zava. It almost seemed to me that he was stealing the goal.
Yeah the point is he did steal the goal.
I’m a bit torn about Ted doing nothing about the team becoming a one man show. Even Jordan passed the ball sometimes.
I remember an early episode in which Ted said to Jamie, “You’re so sure that you’re one in a million that you forget that out there you’re one in ten.” And that’s even more true of Zava. Jamie even said that he had misgivings about hiring Zava, because they had a good thing going, and I agree; the team seemed to work well together but now it’s all about Zava and no one else.
I’m guessing Zava gets pissed at some point and goes to West Ham and the team needs to regroup without him, Jaimie bringing his game to a new level but playing as part of a team. Set up final show down against a Zava enabled Death Star.
ETA Nathan trying to coach Zava would be funny.
Sure, but Richmond with “a good thing going” was predicted to finish in the bottom of the league and with Zava scoring goals in bunches they are in the Top 4. No way they get even close to there without him. That’s why teams put up with crazy antics from super star players.
