The photo of the 94 team is a symbol of Sam’s love of Nigeria and his determination to make the national team. We know this because he burned a previous copy of the photo during the treatment room exorcism/sacrifice in the first season, so now that he got screwed out of making the team, he’s putting the picture back up.
Yeah - I have this problem with a lot of modern shows which have short seasons with long time between. When Akufu showed up at the restaurant, neither my wife nor I had any idea who he was, or how he had fit into earlier episodes.
So, what is the idea as to how th efood ended up on everyone. Did Akufu (or his minion) supposedly dump each person’s meal in their own lap? Or fling the serving trays? And they sat around waiting for it?
Little, stupid thing, but Rebecca is messing with her compact, dabbing at something - whil enot wiping off big globs covering the entire side of her face?!
Too many scenes of beard and the longhaired reporter exchanging glances.
And Nate can actually fiddle! (So tired of actors faking playing instruments!)
I often have to check here and reddit to get help remembering things. In particular some of the reddit fanatics who watch multiple times and have an incredible memory for details. In the show’s defense, the did do a reminder in the review before the actual show.
I rely on episode recaps to remind me of these things. (This was necessary in particular while watching Game of Thrones, with all of those many characters and settings, and, as you said, a long time between seasons.)
Sorry I still don’t see it. The minion walked from diner to diner, picked up handfuls of food, and threw them on each person. While they just waited?
And what human would be so interrupted by that conversation that they would not wipe the food covered side of their face? Little “non-human” things like this bother me more than they should. Like when Rebecca was clueless about the bike path in Amsterdam.
The series is about a professional sports team hiring a coach who knows nothing about the sport. When did anybody think it was safe to reactivate their sense of disbelief while watching this show?
Or in my head “You all realize you’re watching a comedy show, right?”
The earlier scene in the restaurant established that Akufu uses his two little minions to deliver various childish insults and punishments. Even something as petty as the dis’ handshake bit done by his sidekick. It completely tracks with the silliness established earlier (and in past episode, right?) that when Rebecca came out against his idea and convinced everyone to pass that his minion started throwing food at the guests. I didn’t imagine some scenario where he casually walks from person to person up-ending plates but it doesn’t really matter - it’s meant to be another absurdly childish over-reaction to a petty rich man’s will being thwarted.
She was covered in food and sauce, etc. and had a make-up compact applicator pad… part of the humor, for Rebecca, was trying to clean up the mess from an absolutely absurd and laughable situation that just happened. Neither her or Rupert were upset, there was a mutually shared humor at “WTF JUST HAPPENED HAHAHA!” so yeah, she wasn’t scrubbing herself clean in that moment. She was looking at her face in the mirror and dabbing at bits and pieces. Also for all the criticism of Rebecca’s method of trying to clean-up, no one is complaining that not a single male attendee was cleaning up in any manner either. Rupert was standing there with food all over him. The old white guy who didn’t leave, had it all over his shirt and jacket and at best did a little shake of his jacket as he draped it over his arm.
The tea spit… happened in the first season when Ted did it after taking a drink of water (carbonated) and he choke/spit it out all over Rebecca. It was a call back, just like Rebecca was conveying how she had changed from way back then when she brought Ted over to today.
Why wouldn’t the simplest explanation be that he picked up the giant platter of food that was sitting in the middle of the table and flung it across the diners?
Yeah, that seemed the most likely option, but how would EVERY diner get food similarly smeared on their faces/shirts? Everyone LOOKED like they had a plate of food thrown directly at them. My personal opinion is that they messed up applying the makeup in an unbelievable manner.
Sure - ridiculously minor point in a comedy show, but it really took me out of the moment. Instead of thinking food somehow got thrown about, I was thinking that each actor was made up to look like they had food thrown on them.
Yeah, to me the comedy was imagine how each of them, constrained by expected social protocols, sat there as they, one by one, had food thrown upon them. Not knowing what else to do but sit there.
Should they run? Fight? Or stiff upper lip it?
Which fit with the Rebecca dapping delicately response. Trying to fit the absurdity into their social mores. Which plays up the absurdism.
I certainly noticed how her character managed not to wipe off her face. I just ignored it - too inconsequential.
But as far as the bike path: in my city there’s a hugely popular lake with bike and pedestrian path lanes clearly marked, yet every single time I walk it, there are dozens of people who don’t realize they’re in the wrong lane. So I give Rebecca a pass on that.
But I meant the comment like, What’s the symbolism of the two of them being stuck together since we were told by the psychic that the matchbook was very special? I mean, she could have rummaged through her purse and found just the army dude, but they wanted us to see they were stuck together.
Hopefully, they’re not trying to fake out the Sam+Ted shippers.
I thought it was wonderful that Nick Mohammed played the violin part himself. The piano backing was his wife playing.
Jamie gifting Roy his old World Cup jersey but replacing the e with a u made me laugh.
I felt awful when Keeley and Roy broke up. I felt nothing when they got back together. They had abandoned that plot for too long. There was nothing about it this season other than Roy being a little jealous and they barely had any interaction. They dropped the ball on any audience participation in their relationship.
It’s very obvious what the end will look like now. Ted back home. Nate managing Richmond.
