Teddy: She's reached the clearing at the end of the path

A little under three years ago, several of you swell Dopers welcomed our newly-fostered dog, Teddy, to the clan of Straight Dope pets. In the interim, we adopted her and gave her the best life we could for as long as we could. This past Thursday, she just couldn’t go on any longer – everything started to fail internally and even if there had been some magic fix-all, she was days short of 16 years old so the vet agreed with us it was time to let her go.

She came to us through a Border Collie rescue group near central Florida, although we think she was really an Aussie. Her sibling dog and she had been discovered in her former master’s home five days after said master had died. Sibling Dog, being a Bulldog of some sort, couldn’t be adopted through the BC rescue, so they were separated and we have no idea what happened to him/her. Always felt bad about that.

Teddy gave us lots of laughs and was a staunch companion to our other K9, Lizzie, who is missing her a lot while also enjoying Top Dog status for the time being. You could probably bet your last nickel we’ll be adopting another discarded pooch shortly.

Goodbye, Teddy Bear, we’re missing you something awful.

So sorry. You have many wonderful memories.:broken_heart::dog2:

Oh, Burpo. So sorry.

Good ol’ Teddy bear.
Remember the loves.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m glad that you were able to give her a loving home for the past three years.

Old dogs are often the best dogs, making it so much more painful for us when they go. Remember all the joy Teddy brought you.

You have my sympathy. The loss of a cherished friend hurts.

I am glad that you will open your heart and home to another deserving dog.

I’m so sorry, dear. You did wonderfully.

Teddy so tired, indeed. Eventually it’s just time to sleep.

Sleep well, Teddy. She knew she was loved. And indeed you did your best by her.

So glad you were able to give her a happy ending. My boy will be taking that trip soon. I will get another older rescue dog when he leaves me.

You done good by Teddy, Mutt. May the both of you enjoy Peace.

Teddy may be at the end of the path, but she got to walk the path with you … and you with her.

It’s hard to explain the grief over a beloved pet. I had my Yeager for 15 yrs. I have two new schnauzer brothers and I love them beyond the moon but I still think about my good boy everyday. Sorry for your loss.
