Teen Girl Lured on Internet, Killed

This is pretty fucked up. Thoughts/comments?

That’s fucked up.

I’ve met two people from the Net, and they were females (and even then we met at a public place). I might be a little wary of men.

It’s sad she got lured by this sicko. :frowning:
RIP

I can’t even put into words the horror and anger that story fills me with.

On the lighter side, they were so lying when the said and I quote

“A pretty Girl” what in the hell were they thinking.

I’m not going to flame you, I have a pretty dark sense of humor myself, but that was just a fucked up thing to say.

Well, she kinda had bad teeth and too much eyeliner, but otherwise she wasn’t that bad looking. She was probably in that awkward teen stage. :frowning:

There is no “lighter side” to this story.

On an even lighter side: pull a stunt like that again, and you’re out of here. Understood?

I find this so unsurprising. Hey, anybody seen Strangeland with Dee Snyder? All about this stuff, and I absolutely refuse to believe this is the first time it’s happened. Hell, there was even an episode of the X-Files many years ago that focused on the same thing.

What really got me was the melodrama in the article:

**confessed to her sickening murder, cops said. **

**“She was really obsessed with computers,” best pal Thamiris Silva said. “That’s what got her into trouble … computers.” **

**begged neighbors for any information on the girl’s whereabouts – to no avail. **

wasn’t surprised by the sinister turn of events

**Counselors will be on hand at the school today - where the flag flew at half-staff. **

I can just hear that whiney, putty-faced cop narrator from that World’s Worst Cop Show or whatever it’s called saying these lines with his terrible, nasily keen.

I naver realized the NY Post was on par with the Sun. That story was awful.

I haven’t read the story, but I heard about it on the news. It’s a horrible thing. I made the decicion when we first got the computer to keep in the living room, so I could keep an eye on what my kids are doing. I know I can’t stop everything, but I can try.

I must admit this was my first thought. I don’t know where my head is at today.

Here we go again.

Yeah, Rick, I blame Harry Potter.

You know it never makes the front page when people who meet on the net meet IRL and become great friends. Sometimes it’s a novelty story when such people get married. But as many of us know the normal course of events for an IRL meeting is not for a horrible outcome but a good one.

It can work out great to meet someone from the net IRL but I don’t think there’s ever a reason for a 13 year old girl to do it. Her parents (or whomever she lived with) should’ve been more aware of what she was doing on that computer and perhaps this could’ve been avoided.

Zebra, you are awful close to seeing the fnords. When you do, don’t panic, and if you do panic, don’t panic about panicking: it’s normal to panic at first.

Where the heck have you been? The New York Post is a tabloid disguised as a paper founded by Alexander Hamilton. Been that way for years. Sensationalize the horror, play on people’s ignorance-based fear, blame the victim. Nasty stuff.

The New York Post: “The paper for those who like to read fast or have to read slow.”

New York City Gay/Lesbian Alliance guerrilla newsstand sticker, circa 1989: Aren’t you too intelligent to read the New York Post?

you know, maybe it’s because they put news on the front page.
