Who would win?
I’d say Mystique. I don’t know Beast Boy very well, but Mystique seems to have more of a killer-instinct. I say that because on two occasions I’ve seen her try to kill Scott Summers:
Once when she pushed (or kicked?) him down into a cavern. Fortunately, he managed to catch onto a ledge and was saved by Rogue. Another time she tried to beat Scott to death, but was she was stopped by Jean Grey.
In human/semihuman form, there’s a serious mismatch–Mystique is much stronger than Gar, although their agility is close to the same. That means Gar will take the fight to other shapes, and Mystique will be forced to follow suit.
The big question is the limits on Evolution-Mystique’s powers. We don’t really know what she can become–we haven’t seen her turn into anything really big. I think the biggest form so far has been Juggernaut (Rogue took his form using Mystique’s power), and he’s just a really big human. She may not be able to stretch beyond large human-size (the old comic-book Mystique could only take human forms).
Beast Boy can turn into pretty much anything he can envision. While the cartoon version of him may be limited to animals, we’ve seen him take the form of an elephant once, and a t-rex a couple of times. If he takes on a really big shape, and Mystique can’t follow suit, he can win. He could even do it without killing her, which lets him off the hook on the killer-instinct problem.
Now, if Mystique can keep up with him on the power front, and if we discount the he-wins-because-he’s-a-good-guy effect, Gar is in big trouble. He doesn’t have Mystique’s brains, experience, or combat skills. She could take him out easily.
I think Mystique takes this one pretty easily. Even if Gar is able to turn into animals larger than Mystique could handle, I think she’d just use her own power to outmaneuver him until she had the chance to extend a long pointy finger into his ear and spear his brain.
This is assuming, you know, that cartoons are magically allowed to show ultra violence.
Even in a less violent scenario, though, Evolution Mystique is really tough and really evil, whereas Gar hasn’t really done anything that special on Titans yet (turning into a monkey and sticking to Mystique’s face won’t cut it).
Gar almost killed Madame Rouge in an early issue of the New Teen Titans. The drive is there, and if it is between him and her, he’ll do it.
Juggernaut is a mystically enhanced person who was of normal size and then found the ruby of cytorrak, which gave him his immense size, strength, and nigh invulnerability.
Mystique can only become human like beings AFAIK. Beast Boy(a.k.a. Changeling) can become a leviathan if he desires.
The largest I’ve seen Mystique is whenh she assumed Mojo’s form in an issue of Wolverine.
But she’s a stone cold killer. Gar wouldn’t stand a chance.
Mystique wins because she can change colors.
Oh wait, that’s another battle of the shape-shifters.
If in the wild, say both were given envelopes with the other’s photos and told to go get 'em, Mystique wins 9 times out of 10. She’s just sneakier and nastier (plus she can change colors and turn to other humans).
But in a “cage match”, say both are locked in a huge warehouse, Beast Boy wins at least three times out of five. He’s got a wider variety of combat forms and can shift between them quickly.
Mystique is a great Spy/Assasin shape shifter, but Gar’s got the edge on straight-up combat.
Btw, are they ever going to have an Origin episode of TT on CN? Why are they a team? What’s Cyborg’s orgin? What exactly can Raven do? Does Robin sleep in his mask?
I need to know.
I haven’t seen too many episodes of X-Men:Evolution, but in the one where she threw Scott into the revene, she turned into both a wolf, and a bird of sorts. I think they’ve even shown her as a cat at some point in the show. So, she can definitely turn into animals.
Now, how big of an animal, I don’t know, but I’m sure she can pull the whole “half and half” thing…you know, hairy, clawed hands and keep the rest of her the same. In an ultra-violent match up, even if Beast Boy turns into something big, Mystique’s agility would help her get around and gut him rather easily in my opinion. She’s just mean and vicious and willing to kill kids.
I don’t know if she’s like this in the cartoon, either, but in the comics, she’s also the kind to just walk up to someone and shoot them in the face. That’s another big advantage she’d have.
Agreed on all points.
In order:
- Dunno.
- Raven did it. IIRC, she was trying to save the world from her father, who happens to be a powerful demon.
- Depressing as $#!*.
- She’s a sorceress. She can telekinese, astrally project, take that Shadow-Raven form, and (I think) produce some sort of direct magical attack. She has some other powers in the comics, but we haven’t seen them in the series yet.
- Ask Starfire.
What’s Mystique doing in a straight-up fight, anyway? If she wants someone dead, she’s gonna use appropriate disguises to get into his room at night and strangle him in his sleep. But once you know who she is, she has very little advantage from her powers.
On the other hand, a tyrannosaur doesn’t much care who knows about him.
I can’t recall as much of Evo as I’d like to right now, but I would imagine that just like comic book-Msytique, she can shape-shift individual parts of her body to add things like claws, spikes, dense skin and the like. That combined with her fighting ability would make her a pretty tough cookie.
While she can likely do all of those things, they do little more than make her a slightly crunchier snack if she’s facing off against a six-ton carnivore. She could almost certainly escape Beast Boy’s t-rex form, but I don’t see how she can overcome the sheer size/strength advantage it conveys. In a straight-up fight (which is not a place Mystique likes to be anyway, as others have noted), Mystique is at a serious disadvantage. Her best approach is to run away and wait for Beast Boy to turn into something more manageable, then hit him before he can change again. Mystique’s biggest asset in this fight isn’t her power, it’s her mind.
A nasty thought that just occurred to me. From what we’ve seen, Beast Boy’s power seems to compensate for the conservation of momentum somehow. If he changes from a small form to a large one, or vice versa, while in motion, his speed doesn’t change. Does that mean he could take cheetah form, sprint up to top speed, then turn into, say, an elephant moving at 70 miles an hour? That could get really messy for anyone in front of him.
Nope.
She’s an empath. This allows her to know what others feel and also allows her to be able to manipulate emotions.
She can teleport.
Her soul self is a black form that can transport people, and can be used in multiple ways as an attack.
While her father is the demon Trigon, she is not a sorceress. Her mother Arella was.
