Why is it so hard to make a headset with sound quality (from the perspective of the person you’re talking to) that is as good as even a cheap telephone? I have used headsets costing as much as $150 that still sound like your standing across the room from the microphone.
I’ve learned that you need to keep the mic very close to your mouth. Mics for headsets are not sensitive, becauase they don’t want to pick up background noise.
In our call center, everyone (all 500 plues agents) familiar with mics on the sets keeps them on top on their mouth. Occassional users get complaints from the parties they are talking to because they keep it away from their mouth…like you should if it were a TV mic, or a walkie talkie.
But a phone set mic won’t distort if you practically keep it between your teeth.
How about the stubby ones that don’t reach your teeth?
A lot of the new cell phone headsets get about as far as the cheekbone, and my desktop Plantronics set ends about an inch short as well. (Although, I’ve not had complaints about it.)
