There are a number of sitcoms over the past few years that fit this description, and some of them were aired on mainstream channels in the U.S.

This sounds much like the movies that are shown on the Lifetime Channel in the U.S.

Older people love those shopping networks. They love calling and getting their voice on the air. When I worked at a credit card company about 10 years ago, I saw plenty of accounts where older people would order tons of stuff from the shopping networks and then return it all. Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
