Appleton transplant also checking in. I still live here. Appleton is a great little city. We just had a new performing arts center built here that gets some great shows (Boston pops, George Carlin, Moody Blues) Lawrence U is a great Libral arts college with an emphisis on the word Libral ( good or bad depending on your perspective) We have a talk NPR station, and a classical NPR station that are very good (WI In general is up there for the best Public radio). There is a large mall called the Fox River Mall. It has about 200 stores. Downtown Appleton and Downtown Neenah are very nice at night, good bar/club scene. Also, we are not just the home to paper. Oshkosh truck, Pierece Manufacturing and Neenah Foundry are big for manucatoring ( All in the Fortune 1000) Also, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (The old AAL) is the worlds largest Fraturnal Insurance orginzation. It is somewhere in the fortune 500. (plug, both my parents work there, its a great company, they have donated about 100 Million to the area for public works in the past 2 years) The Appleton and Neenah libraries are very nice. There is a Techincal college that has about 3k students, and a Two year college UW fox Valley (where I currently attend) that has 2k students. You are within a 30 minute drive to Green Bay, Which has 2 very nice colleges, and a 20 minute drive to Oshkosh, which has many good college parties and the occasional Riots. The Appleton-Neenah-Oshkosh area is about 350k people, and there are many small communties around that have grown in the metro regon with interesting cultural backgrounds (Little Chute has a very large Dutch population) Yes, you couldn’t pay me to live in Kaukauna due to the sometimes smell, but I love the area. Also Lake Winnebego is quite nice, and Highcliff state part is part of the Niagra outcropping (yes, it really is) and provides for good hiking and camping.
Weather isn’t that bad.

PS, Trivia Kicks major ass. It is the 2nd largest radio triva contest in the US. Stevens Point (about 50 miles away) has the largest. Go figure.
I went to Lawrence, and I’ve always thought Appleton was nice enough if you wanted a suburban feel. I’m more of a city guy, though, and it’s not nearly big enough to satisfy me on that front. The restaurants are pretty good, but the movie situation – ouch!
Also, I was a Trivia Master. If you think playing is fun . . .
Guh. I’m sorry, elmwood. I’ve sorta been stalking you in hopes of hearing some good news.
Take care of yourself, eh? It’ll get better, I promise.
