I am now one Bioshock defeating motherfucker. Never harvested any little sisters and didn’t let any die in the proving ground. I was a little disappointed with the brevity of the ending cutscene. It didn’t seem like enough, after all that had led up to it. Apparently I missed some power to the people stations, as I didn’t get the achievements for completely upgrading 5 weapons and all weapons. I can’t figure out where they were, for I was careful to explore the whole map in each section of the game. Sadly, I missed the PhD achievement by not completely researching security cameras, of all things.
Overall, still one of the best games I’ve ever played.
Yeah it’s pretty good. I’m enjoying it more all the time. I still get chills when I rescue a Little Sister at night with the lights out, cool music and the creepy child’s voice with the deep undertone “No no, no no!”
And if you attack him, he will bleed suggesting he’s alive, but won’t die. You can’t unthaw him, so he isn’t really alive, either.
I like Bioshock, and I’d hate to be a pretentious purist, but it pales in comparison to System Shock 2, its “spiritual predecessor.” The “RPG” elements in Bioshock are rather lame. Check out System Shock if you get a chance, it can be tricky to get it running on modern Windows but it’s doable. Someone released an improved graphics pack awhile ago as well.
Happily, I can still get most of the missing accomplishments without starting completely over, I find. I’ve reloaded a save from just after arriving at the surace. After letting the badguy monologue, I was able to get back on the metro and return to earlier locations. I’m not sure, but it seems I may have missed a diary in “Welcome to Rapture,” and that is the only area one may not revist, dammit! OTOH, the upgraded handgun_which was useless through the latter portion of the game_is now quite handy for dropping low level splicers with one or two shots. No expenditure of EVE or other ammo necessary. Plain old handgun bullets work just fine and the splicetards drop plenty of replacement ammo.
