Tell Me About Black Mice- As In Vermin

Where I live there is a fair amount of scrub and we get field mice and those ones that live in the longer grass. They are brown and sometimes grey- they seldom venture into the house and when they do one of the fearless cats normally proudly displays them after a short period of time.

A sudden new development. Lot of noise in the ceiling and a visit by the pest exterminator tells me we have some rats taken up residence. Fair enough- we have had a lot of garbage removed and possibly they were disturbed. (It is winter here and pretty cold by our standards). Lots o baits were placed which I am assured will not hurt the fearless hunting cats.

Tonight I found a black mouse running around on the kitchen bench. Not only have I never seen a mouse there, I have never seen a mouse this dark (I am praying it is not a baby rat).

My question- is there any link to the colour of a mouse and its breed or nature? Is this just a dark specimen of a field mouse?

Should I sell the house?

This is how it always is with you people. Other mice in the neighborhood don’t bother you, but as soon as a black mouse moves in, it’s time to sell the house.

Yep- I would be the same with a ginger mouse. They are notoriously bad tempered.
